Subject:Beginner here...sampling question...be gentle!

Hi everyone! I'm new to the board, new to Acid period! I
recently purchased Acid Music 2.0 to help me create my hip-
hop type tracks...I don't know too much about Acid, so any
help would be appreciated! What I'm trying to do is
"sample" maybe 4 to 7 second snips from CD's to loop, but
have no idea on how to do it...can someone please point me
in the right direction??? I didn't purchase a separate
sound editor, like SoundForge (expensive!), but was
wondering if I need something like that to sample stuff
from CD's, or even to edit existing loops (chop up, play
only certain portions). Anyone willing to take the time to
help a newcomer? I'd appreciate any assistance at all!!!

Peace!
RawLO

Greetings Rawlo,
Find the section of the CD that you wanna sample. Pause the CD a
few seconds before the part you wanna keep. Open Acid and Hit the
Record Button. Start the CD and then press Play in the Record Dialog
Box. Stop recording a few seconds after the sample passes. Fit the
Track to Time and use Snap to Ruler. Line up the beginning of the
part you wanna keep to a Ruler Mark. Set the Loop Markers on top of
the Track List to designate the beginning and end of the Loop. Verify
that the Track your Sample is on is the only Active Track. In the
Pull-down Edit Menu choose Mix to New Track. Acid will cut the Loop
out and install it on a New Track while saving it where you designate
it to be saved.
Do this a coupla times. Check the Record Level Meters. You need to
get a feel for Recording. The peak of the Record Level Meter before
you record should be about -6 dB in order to get a good Finished
Product.
Salute,
Jon

You can't really "edit" samples in Acid, but you can just record the
portion of the track you want directly into Acid and then clip it to
the length you want. To perform major editing you should get
SoundForge, expensive but well worth it.

Keep mixing

I take a different, slightly easier approach to this. I grabbed a
copy of WINDAC, a shareware program that will digitally rip audio
tracks from a CD into a WAV file. This usually gives me a 30-40MB
WAV file. I then use SoundForge to mark just the section I want, then
copy it and paste the section into a new audio file. This way, I get
a LOT of control over the result.
Cheers,
JS
