I have acid pro 6.0 and selected a video file from explorer..however the video strip is not running in realtime in the data window....all i see are thumbnails...basically i want to animate the video strip so that it is plays along with the audio data as the current position cursor moves within the data window....

when i select the video preview window , then i see the actual footage...however i do want to see the same footage in the data window..

btw i downloaded the latest updates..im running 6.0d(build 363)

what am i doing wrong?

I don't think you're doing anything wrong. I think ACID and Vegas just don't do this. I know Sound Forge can so i'm not sure why the other two wouldn't. But, they don't, so there it is.

Heck, Sound Forge XP 4.5 had it. Dunno about earlier versions 'cause that's where i got on the boat. In any case, it's not like this is a recent feature. If i had to guess at a suspicion though, i'd say that way back then Sound Forge didn't have a video preview window, so it made sense to animate the thumbnails on the timeline. When Vegas and ACID got video capability added they both had vidoe preview windows so maybe it was decided that animated thumbs weren't necessary.
