i have acid 5.0 pro. and everything works just fine, but i can't figure out how to hear my vocals during recording. i used to be able to hear it on my old computer, but after installing acid on my new computer, i can't. i remember having this problem before, but i can't remember what i did to solve it, besides the fact that i'm using a completley different system of recording. before i was using a bheringer mix tabel, an old stereo receiver, a samson condensor mic, and some house speakers, and everything was wired together somehow to plug into the 1/8 jack in my computer. the sound quality was very poor, but everything worked fine. since then i'v upgraded my computer, i now work with the mackie onyx satelite sound car, samson condensor mic, and event monitors. everything is working fine, i can record and mix with no problems, except for the fact that i can't hear my self in the headphones while i'm recording. can anyone help me out with this problem?

The key is your audio interface. You have to figure out a way to enable monitoring so that your audio interface passes the input to output. I have no idea how this is done with the Onyx Satellite but being a pro-audio interface, I'm sure it can be done. Consult your user manual.

Actually some pro interfaces don't have this feature, while most cheap 'gaming' audio cards do. I'm not saying Onyx doesn't, but it's possible. Some pro interfaces are designed without the extra monitoring capabilities in order to keep the signal paths cleaner and leave the user to depend on the outboard mixer to get monitoring.

I believe you want to monitor your recording from the headphone output of the Onyx. Since I assume this is what you are recording into, it should be able to present the recorded input at the headphone output. This is how my M-Audio Firewire-410 works. The Onyx shouldn't be that different.

I'm having a similar problem with a different setup. I'm using ACID Music Studio 7.0, Windows Vista and an M-Audio Fast Track USB recording device. I cannot find a way to monitor the input while recording. The recording input doesn't register in the master volume control in the mixer, although it does register on the individual track meters. The FAQ on the M-Audio website says to click on the Arm Record button in ACID and select input monitoring (and another user suggested the same thing elsewhere in this forum), but I get nothing when clicking the Arm button (aside from arming or disarming the record feature on that track).

What do you have your Headphones plugged into? They should be plugged into the M-Audio Fast Track headphone output.

That only works for ACID Pro 6. The Music Studio version doesn't have input monitoring in software. You must use your hardware to monitor. If M-Audio is saying that you can't monitor via their hardware then there is no way to monitor with your setup.

i took everybodies advice, but nothing seemed to work, so i tried a different approach. i tried using my setup in a different progrom to see if it would work, and it did, so i know the problem isn't my setup. it has to be somthing in the acid preferences. i just can't figure out what it is. I'm using acid pro 5.0
any suggestions???

You don't say what other software you used that was successful.

ACID Pro 5 does not control hardware input monitoring or permit software input monitoring. ACID 6 introduced software input monitoring and this is limited to the use of ASIO drivers.

You must configure your hardware to provide a output monitoring of your hardware input.

My guess is that your old configuration was set up to route the input signal to the output either with the sound card or on your mixer.

What you need to do is read through the Mackie Onyx manual and determine how you can route the input to the Onyx back to the output of the Onyx.

You have to turn on Input Monitoring.
