Subject:Can't get rid of pops

When I record guitar parts into acid over my created loops,
I get pops and hiss during play back. The sound quality is
decent but not what I expect, and my levels are perfect.
Could this possibly be my sound card? I've got a sound
blaster16. It's not the best and I plan on upgrading it
soon, but I wonder if that alone could be the cause. Also I
haven't a D/A converter yet. I just plug my digitech
multieffects proccessor into my minidisk, then into the
sound card. I thought possibly the minidisk might convert
the anolog signal first, then pass it on to the sound
card. However, I now realize that to send the ditital
signal from the minidisk to the sound card can only be done
by first (in my case), traveling through an anlog cord.
Nevertheless my soundcard is converting the twice converted
signal. So I plugged directly in and the same thing. Could
it be the lack of the D/A converter? Thanx Dave

An SB16 card can either record at 16 bit or play at 16 bit. It cannot
do both at the same time. If you are playing back and recording in
ACID, you are recording at 8 bit. This is why you are getting less
than desirable results.

FWIW: Get a better sound card. You will be glad you did. Even an SB

I use the same soundcard and I don't have any problems with clicks,
but I used to. Even if you think your levels are perfect, try
lowering them a touch. If the clicks are in loops, then the point
you looped the loop was the wrong position.
Also, I never needed a D/A converter. I run my guitar straight into
the computer sometimes, but usually through a processor first
(Actually, it's a Digitech)
