Subject:How to record with Line6 Toneport GX??!!

Hey guys!

I just got my new Toneport GX, and I can't figure out how to record guitar in my Acid Pro 6.0d. I'm running XP.

1. I thought I could add a midi track and set the input as the Toneport and Gearbox.... but I'm not getting any signal. I've never recorded with Acid Pro yet... and I'm having a hard time trying to find my solutions in all of the manuals.

I've read a couple posts about people really liking their Toneports...so I assume it's possible. I'm just trying to avoid piping my Toneport output to my soundcard input.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!!!

The GX is not a MIDI interface, but an audio interface. You need to record to an audio track, not a MIDI track.

You should use the ASIO drivers with the GX.

You then add an Audio track, set the input to this track to the GX's input. Arm the track for record and hit the record button.

There are more things you can do, but this should get you started.

2nd Question:

1. Is it possible to set up ACID Pro 6.0d to use the Toneport for Input from the guitar and use my Sound card for playback (and even better...let me hear my guitar through my soundcard while I'm recording into ACID)?

I was able to record my guitar to an audio track (by selecting the toneport from the Audio Device list in the Preferences menu)--this means I can only hear my guitar through the output of the Toneport (not through my soundcard speakers that i used to hear all of my ACID midi and wave stuff), but if I wanted to play it back through my soundcard and speakers, I had to go back to Preferences and Set my Audio Device to Microsoft Sound Mapper.

As always, I appreciate your help and patience!

You would have to use Wave Classic driver mode in ACID.

You will encounter issues if you record and playback at the same time. Why? Because they are physically different devices. There is no assurance that the input and output will be at the exact same clock rate. You MAY be able to sync your two cards using Word Clock or some other common clocking mechanism. Refer to your hardwrae manuals for such functionality.

The other issue is there is no mechanism to assure that both the input and audio devices will start at exactly the same time. Think of it like trying to start two tape machines at the same time by hitting play on both of them simultaneously. You may get close - and even on occasion nail it - but in general one will always start before the other.

The best solution is to route your GX to the speakers directly. A very inexpensive mixer that has at least two stereo inputs would be an simple solution. This way your sound card and GX can both be routed to the same set of speakers.

The simplest solution would be to connect the output of the GX to the line input of your sound card. This way GX is "mixed" through the sound card's internal mixer.

Ah, yeah, I'm finally figuring it out. Thanks for your patience and nice descriptions. I already own a Korg HD 16 Track Recording unit, and I'm used to just listening to the monitor output during recording.

I decided to make the TonePort the default sound device for input and output and just plugged my speakers into the Toneport. (The Line6 manual had a nice description of different setups like this).

The more I think about it, the more I understand all of the complicated requirements of audio device input and monitoring device output and being tied to the same PC.

I was hoping that I could easily plug in my Toneport, hit record with ACID and start rockin out...listening to my sound through my PC Speakers. I had no clue how complicated the Sound Device routings were going to be. Lesson Learned!

Thanks again for your help!!
