Subject:What mic should I get?

My friend just bought acid music studio and we were wondering what microphone we should buy. My computer has a 1/8 jack and some usb ports. We want to spend around $150. Does anybody have any idea? If you need more info let me know. Thanks for the help!

What are you going to record? Vocals? Instruments? Both? Where will you be recording it? In a small room? In a studio? In a concert hall? We can give you much better ideas if we know what you're going to do with it.

Thanks for your reply! We will be recording male vocals in a bedroom, so it's pretty small. We won't be recording any instruments. Thanks for the help!

The 1/8 jack in your computer motherboard is designed for a $15 computer mic and it will happily make any mic you plug into it sound like a $15 computer mic ;-) You really should buy an audio interface to get good sound but since that is beyond your $150 budget, your next best bet is to pick up a $99 USB mic like the ones from Samson or BLUE's Snowball. They act as an audio interface for the mic and I have read some pretty good reviews on them.
