MIDI: Sound continues across deleted parts of trk -ACID Product Family

I am cutting various passages out of the track. Despite the fact that I delete the sections entirely--and the track section does delete, leaving the grid--a thin blue line remains, cannot be deleted, and apparently represents a "damper on" setting that carries the midi info from the previous non-deleted section of the track across this deleted area.
