Subject:using a software synth in acid(sorry)

Hello,
I'm wondering if there is a solution to my dilemma...
I'm trying to play along to a drum track in acid with a
software synthesizer called generator and record the synth
to a new track in acid... the problem I have is that the new
track has the synth line I just played AND the drum track
mixed in with it... is this just a limitation of the
soundcard (I have a soundblaster live value) or can I solve
this problem somehow...

I would try playing the drum beat on a tape or straight from my drum
machine and playing along with it that way. i have a cheap soundcard
and i use a drum machine or .wav file in combination with a four
track and then play it back, minus the drum track, into the
computer. it takes time, but it's the only way i've discovered to do
that.

Marcel, I also have a soundblaster live value card and use the
following technique to record guitar tracks via the LINE channel. In
your case I believe you can utilize the MIDI in channel to accomplish
the same thing with your software synthesizer.

Bring up the Soundblaster Mixer Window and select MIDI (or LINE or
AUX depending on the application) under the RECORD channel function.
Set the volume fader level appropriately. Open the super-environment
window and select the midi icon(shown as a muisc note). Now drag the
note all the way to the left of the environment window. (Essentially
panning it far left.) Next select the WAVE icon (looks like an
oscilliscope wave) and drag it to the far right.

Switch to the ACID application and bring up the record dialog box.
Select MONO recording. Press RECORD.

You can now play along with the current contents of you ACID project
while recording a new track. For monitoring purposes, you'll only
hear the instrument you playing and recording from the left speakers
and the current ACID tracks on the right.

After recording you can pan the new mono track to where you need it
in the stereo mix. I also like to edit the new track with Soundforge
XP, adding effects, and sometimes converting it into a stereo file.

I use Acid alot with Generator 2.0 to do loops, if you want please e-
mail me. I don't know if my way will help you

Record the Midi not the Audio !
Then you can asign whatever softsyth an flip though different patches, obviuosly the midi track you will record will not be combined with the audio from the drumloop.
