I'd appreciate any help with this. Here's what I'm doing in SForge 9: select a section of the wave file between 2 markers open Graphic Dynamics with settings: attack = 0ms, release = 50ms, threshold = -8.6db, ratio= 5.4:1. Output Gain = 0 "Sync channel gains" and "real-time" boxes are checked. this introduces a clip near the end, but not quite at the exact end, of the selected wave section where there wasn't one before. thanks. Change the edge fades in the "More..." section to the (visually) linear fade type or change the fade in/out lengths to zero. You can save the current settings for all effects as the default by right-clicking and selecting "Save Fade Values." The default curve is usually a good choice for most effects, but may not be the best choice for effects that change gain but not necessarily phase. J. |

I'm still rather confused. If I apply the exact Graphic Dynamics settings to the entire file, there is no clip problem even at either end of the file. It seems this problem happens because I've applied G Dynamics to a selected portion of the wave file instead of the file. Seems wrong to me. At these settings (ie Attack = 0ms), I should be achieving a limiting effect, I'd think. I tried selecting the linear Fade-in and Fade-out and the clip went away, but it's still not correct. With the linear Fades selected, I'm not getting the desired limiting effect (ie the wave section is still ending up too high, but now just shy of clipping). I'd think these setting of G Dynamics should never cause a clip. I did this a lot in SForge 6 and never had this problem. any thoughts would be appreciated. |

When the entire file is selected, the fades default to zero length, as this is usually the desired behavior. If you want the same behavior as Forge 6 for a selection, click "More..." and set fade in/out lengths to zero. Right-click and select "Save Fade Values" if you want this to be the default behavior. that appears to have worked, but now, at some settings of GDynamics noise is being introduced. my settings are: attack = 0ms release = 50ms threshold = -19.6db ratio = 5.2:1 gain = 13.0 db under the "More" section, fade in and out = 0 and both graphic boxes have the linear fades chosen. |
