Subject:ACID Music Studio 6, Recording Issues

All I use ACID for atm, is to play accompanying tracks and record my vocals (singing). The problem I'm having is I hear a glitch/skip/pause on the music track while I'm recording my singing. When I playback to 2 tracks together and at the point where I heard the glitch/skip/pause, my vocals, then, become off tempo...behind the music tempo. When I just play the music track it's fine, it only happens when recording. I have the playback buffer set to .25 and the recording buffer set to 175 and until the glitch/skip/pause, everything is perfectly on tempo......Any help?

Thanks

Your playback buffer determines the latency, so strictly speaking, the artifact that should be associated with the playback buffer is "dropouts", i.e. temporary silencing/breaking of audio due to a low buffer, but not glitches.

It could be an issue with your sound card/hardware interface (like strong em fields or huge DC offsets?). Also, check the interface (quality) of the mic you are using, and the quality of the mic itself. Many of these transducer units introduce outrageous amounts of noise and distortion into the stream.

As for things becoming off tempo: You need to adjust the latencies. A 10,000 rpm streamer will bring it down considerably, and 2ms is possible on 15k cheetah systems (some SAS drives as well). A high quality audio interface coupled with a fast harddisk will solve this problem, but then, that costs a considerable amount.

So the best solution for you? 1. Tweak the latency and 2. Use your mouse to place things correctly.

If you can tell me your hardware details, I might be able to help you a little more.

Please fill out your system specs in your user profile and expose them.

K...I've filled out my system specs....the "Other" operating system is Vista 64-bit. I've recently learned from reading the forums that ver. 6 does not support Vista, so I may download 7.0 tonight. Hope that will resolve the issue, because my system is way more than capable of running and operating the software.

Many thanks for the replies :)

I see that you are using an SB Audigy card. Are you using the Creative ASIO drivers or Microsoft Sound Mapper? You should be using the Creative ASIO drivers. This will give you the lowest latency.
