avi "Stream Offline" problem

Hi,
Just fired up Vegas 7 this morning and found all my projects with avi files show them as "Media Offline" on the timeline and "Stream Offline" in their properties.
My still photos show up correctly on the same video tracks - just the avi's don't.
What's with this?
I can't figure out how to get them back.
I tried clicking "Recapture all offline media" but no joy, I tried reloading them but no joy either.
They are physically there in the correct location and correctly viewable with VLC media player.
Vegas does not give any errors while starting up.
I've tried a couple of cold boots and even rolled back the new DivX codec I installed this week (6.7) to 6.6.
Help!!

Have you tried opening your project directly from the *.veg icon instead of just starting up Vegas?

Just tried that, no change. Thanks.
I also just did a complete reinstal of 7e (after removing it using the uninstal part of W2K).
Apart from the merry dance of the Sony servers not working and refusing to accept my registration and many naughty words later after figuring out I could get it registered if I fooled it that I was doing it from another pc. (Damn doncha hate this registration garbage).
Where was I, oh yes new instal - no fix - same problem.
It's only avi's. Png, jpg, psd etc no prob. But avi's all show "stream attributes could not" under Video in the Import window. This is where the still photos have their size displayed.
Obviously Vegas cannot find the size of the avi's and is probably trying to tell me so - fat lot of good that is!
Was working fine yesterday. Sheesh. What's the good of trying?

I got this message a couple of times when the file path had been changed. I wonder what would happen if you loaded one of those avi's again and saved the project; perhaps even under a different name. You're going to end up replacing the blank clips with the proper ones again anyway if you won't figure out what happened so why not try it now? How long is your project? Perhaps replacing all the empties wouldn't be such a hassle.

No dice.
Even if I start a brand new project I get the error on all avi files:
"stream attributes could not" under Video in the Import window
Besides - I have dozens of projects created over a period of many years. There's no way I can recreate them all.

One other problem Sony now thinks I'm someone else and I have had to go through the registration garbage again (third time today) and can't even use the name I was using this morning. (Billy d) I guess all my computer info is history too.
