Not sure what you are asking for...

Most of DX and VST plugins will have an extension of DLL, though DX can also use .ax.

Regardless, you cannot really tell what is or is not a VST or a DX plugin.

DX plugins are registered in Windows and there is an API to permit applications to scan for them.

VSTs (and VSTis) can be located in just about any place, but the default location is typically

program files\vstplugins

This does depend on the plugins installer and your personal preference.

So, VSTs can be strewn all over the place. There can be multiple copies installed as well. Some plugin installers actually will search your entire collection of drives to locate what it believes are valid VST install directories.

This is why we permit you to set up to three different search paths for VSTs and VSTis independentally.

Midi sounds pretty lousy... I'm considering Rendering the midi to wave and then adding effects... I was just kind of looking for midi effects or soft synths?
