hello i am having trouble finding any sample (drum loops) that are along the hip hop genra. is there a way to use a drum machine along with acid? or is there a way to sample snares and kicks seperatly and construct your own beats, this little problem is holding me back from a lot of great music if you can help i would be very greatfull, honestly. mat |

Mat, you should review the library of sample cd's that Sonic Foundry sells for Acid. You can probably find something very appropriate from the selections available, and they're very reasonably priced. mat wrote: >>hello i am having trouble finding any sample (drum loops) >>that are along the hip hop genra. is there a way to use a >>drum machine along with acid? or is there a way to sample >>snares and kicks seperatly and construct your own beats, >>this little problem is holding me back from a lot of great >>music if you can help i would be very greatfull, honestly. >> >>mat >> |

Yo, mat what up,it's Damixx, I use acid along with my mpc 2000, U can use it with mtc along with any drum machine, I don't use it this way. Before the mpc 2000, I used to use rebirth 2.0 and drumbox 1.0 (like rebirth but it allows u to load your own samples) to create my beats. Rebirth and drumbox allow you too export your patterns as wave files, of course once they are wave files u throw them into acid and do your thing. I also experimented using recycle 1.6 and exporting bass and snare slices as wave files and then used them as one shot samples in acid. I went to the options menu in acid and selected snap to 64 Note. I then used the magnifying glass in acid (on the bottom to the far right of where the tempo is displayed)and stretched it all the way so that You literally have 64 boxes to place your one shot notes and you can build a beat from there, then u can bring it back to normal size go back to options and select snap to whole note or half note etc and add your drum loops. u can also start out with a drum loop to help you construct your beat in time with the loop. Also try using sample cds go to soundsonline.com and get the audio version of the cds, there are about ten samples per track so you need a cd extractor to turn them into a wave file then use recycle or wavesurgeon to isolate the loops then export them into individual wave files for use in acid or your sampler. |

What a coincidence, but the next post (mine) is a question on this - 10 samples per track with a bit of silence in between each, how to use with ACID. Chopping them up with Soundforge (after extraction) seemed like a very time-consuming process, can wavsurgeon/recycle do it faster? Will the accuracy of the loops be there? I need help with this as I have a number of CDs like this with great loops I cant use. Neole |

I use wavesurgeon, specifically for this purpose and have converted all of my audio sample cds. It is so quick with one shot sounds; however, the loops on audio cds tend to always be sloppy, never perfect. So what I do in wavesurgeon is use the slice feature to mark the slice points, then there are two markers on the bottom, one says left the other says right you can drag them to each slice point and export the individual loops. I achieve this with 100 percent success and unfortunately quicker than sound forge. I have already suggested something to sonic foundry along these lines, I know they will deliver. Wavesurgeon is 100 percent faster. All u do after u extract the files and turn them into waves is open wavesurgeon and you will see the ten loops (silence included) use the slice feature and u will see slices before and after the silences as well. Move the left and right markers to the loop segment that you want then export to wave. example these are the loops 1234 silence 1234 silence these are the loops after slicing in wavesurgeon 1/2/3/4/ silence 1/2/3/4/ silence This is an example of using the L and R markers to isolate the loop. 1/2/3/4/ silence 1/2/3/4/ silence [L] [R] isolate and export to wave file then go on to the next. This is quicker than any way u can imagine. PS, tell Sonic Foundry to give Damixx a job (my own acid column) and helping develop acid. Damixx |

Hello, >>Wavesurgeon is 100 percent faster. All u do after u extract the >>files and turn them into waves is open wavesurgeon and you will see >>the ten loops (silence included) use the slice feature and u will see >>slices before and after the silences as well. I downloaded the latest Wavesurgeon demo (2.56) but haven't found the 'Slice' feature anywhere. I followed this procedure (as this looked like the ideal option) - took the wav file (11 MBs) and opened it in WaveSurgeon. There's an icon among the ones at the top which says 'Strip Silence' I chose it with the option 'Points Set between Stripped Samples. Then I click 'OK' and the harddisk whirrs for sometime and either I get tired of waiting or the comp reboots by itself. How much time do you think an 11 MB stereo 44 16 sample with around 12 loops (with 12 silences in between) should take to process on a P2 450 64 MB RAM? Where's the Slice feature anyway? Will downloading an older version help? Or does only the retail version have this option (tho I dont think so). Does Recycle do anything like this too? Will it help? I like your advice. Where dyu want me to tell SoundFoundry about your ACID column - their techsupport or this newsgroup? Neole |

The slice feature is a little lever on the bottom to the right of the stop button, it may be called some thing else but that's what I call it. slide it a little to the right and see wave surgeon creates slices( ////) on the audio. Peep my website for some phatt links www.rit.edu/~jmc0987/4amproductions you can get a wav scratcher to scratch audio wav files like vinyl records or a free vocal eliminator direct x plug in. |

Hi! >>The slice feature is a little lever on the bottom to the right of the >>stop button, it may be called some thing else but that's what I call I found it - its called 'Sensitivity Slider' in my release. And it's fast! Thanks. I was working on the loops with Soundforge tho, and found the following steps helped me quickly (but tediously) create loops of the files. If you do manage to go through the steps do tell me if any of these steps can be simplified or should be modified? (These steps are for those sample CD tracks which contain around 10 loops on a single track interspersed by silence). 1) Open Sound Forge 2) Open the wave file with the loops and silences. 3) Process--> Autotrip/Crop - (This step deletes the silences in between the loops and create regions out of each loop - I keep the fade in and out to 0 - yet this leaves behind some space between the regions, even though they are totally silent - how to I get rid of this? This leads me to add the step (5) to get rid of the silences.) 4) Tools--> Autoregion - (this saves all the loops to seperate wav files) 5) With each region wav file--> Process--> Autotrim/Crop--> Remove edges outside of the Selection (This step can be removed if the Process-->Autotrim feature in the beginning trimmed away all the silence. However, I find that it always leaves some space between the loops - how can I avoid this?) 6) Choose one of these wav files which seem to loop perfectly (or trim it to loop perfectly - usually the drum loops are most reliable for this). Open ACID, click on the file and check its tempo. 7) Use that tempo under 'ACID properties' in Sound Forge for the mismatched loops; using 'HardDisk Based' option instead of loop. Show measures:beats instead of time in the main window. For loops that fall short (commonly bass) of the 4 beats, take cursor to end of wav, insert a bit of silence, select the 4 beats and press T, then Crop. For loops longer than the 4 beats, follow the same step but dont 'Insert Silence' - (This step will elongate/shorten the wav file to the required length to loop perfectly, since we know that its tempo is the same as that of the file we checked in ACID. I wonder if there's any kind of shortcut to this step.) 8) Acidise the files to loop and specify correct number of loops if required (sometimes). (This step is only required if you change the ACID properties of the sample to HardDisk based in step 7). That's it. Pretty accurate loops. I'll see if it's easier in Wavesurgeon now that I've found the Slice feature. Neole |

Hi again, You wrote - >>these are the loops >>1234 silence 1234 silence >>these are the loops after slicing in wavesurgeon >>1/2/3/4/ silence 1/2/3/4/ silence >>This is an example of using the L and R markers to isolate the loop. >> 1/2/3/4/ silence 1/2/3/4/ silence >>[L] [R] isolate and export to wave file then go on to the next. I tried to follow these steps but had a bit of trouble - after setting the senstivity slider (the 'splice lever') to even 100% WaveSurgeon doesn't isolate the loops. I get the following scenario - 1234silence/ 1234silence/ (i.e. loop1-silence/loop2-silence/...) Thus moving the markers gives me this resulting in the silence getting exported with the loop - 1234silence/ 1234silence/ [L] [R] Why are the silences not getting isolated as a region? They are 0 decibel regions as far as I can see. Do I have to change some options? Thanks, Neole |

I don't have wavesurgeon set up differently, it just worked that way for me, there were times where I had to make a mark myself, but it was not that often, I will do a little more experimenting and see if that comes up. |
