I use Cakewalk PA, Jammer, CD Architect, and recently ACID. I purchased ACID Rock style as well. As I'm not a drummer, ACID is the quickest, easiest way I've found to get drums into new material I'm writing, congratulations SF! I employ an Alesis-SR16 drum machine, and use a DM-5 module for MIDI drums via Cake or Jammer as appropriate. ACID has some good metal drum riffs and beats, as does Cake PA Musician's toolbox... but I'd like to see a lot more. I talked to a few dealers about this. They say most performers of this genre are aghast at the thought of using loop based or sequencing products for drum tracks. For final studio mixes or performance I wouldn't either, but it sure would help in the project studio! Right now I find myself taking a basic beat and manually editing MIDI additions (or deletions) via sequencer or a drum machine... Jammer can be pretty good for riffs, once a MIDI translation file is used to import to Cake then drive the DM-5, but I've found myself spending up to three days on drum tracks for one composition. I'm either looking in the wrong place or there isn't much out there. If anyone could post a reply as to where I could look for a varied series of drum riffs and beats usable with ACID and specific to metal I'd be grateful. I've seen some stuff on CD, but it seems more "punk" or "thrash" oriented. Does ACID plan to produce a "style" product in the future for metal, specifically drums? I'd say you would find it well accepted, but I'm sure my view is skewed. Advance thanks to those who would take time to offer their experience. |

Producing your own drums is a lot more satisfying than trying to fit your compositions into someone else's ideas of effects and soundscapes. I suggest you purchase a midi drum library called DrumTrax. Its full of live recordings of pro drummers and you can run them through any of your drumsets. |
