What are the best settings for saving to asf? I'm still using Netshow server 3.0 and eventually will go to the 4.0 product, but right now I'm still learning. I have Acid Music that I just bought and have played with the features for 2 evenings. What I want to know is on the acid page at www.sonicfoundry.com they have some samples that you can listen to. What I'm creating to stream http://techyard/dynip.com/peanut/heidiho.asf (for example) takes a lot of buffering, even when setup on a true netshow server. Not sure if it is my file in the way I set it up. I'd like to know what asf settings you used to save the hillbilly, living in the world, and sunday songs so that I could produce good quality and still easily streamable songs. I mainly create at home (no netshow server, just http)and then use file at work on our intranet (which has a netshow 3.0 server). I've made a good asx file here and it still does a lot buffering on the local lan. Your sample songs rocked right away when I clicked on them. My file is 400k and 30 secs roughly...how big are your sample songs? Any advice would be appreciated, since I'm still trying to bring in to perspective this whole creating the music, and streaming the content thing... Lee Boise, Idaho |

Lee, It's all about bandwidth... for example, if you want files to stream well on a 28.8 modem, you need to target a bit-rate of ~20 kbps. A 44 kHz, 16-bit, stereo file that is 30 seconds long will end up being 78.6KB... down from the original ~5.1MB. You have to accept trade-offs on sound quality when you target low bandwidth connections. Given your example, you probably saved to 128 kbps... which would require a Dual ISDN connection to stream properly.. -curt. |
