Is this true? I got an email saying that in all versions (I have Pro if it makes a difference) that if I choose to save my work with all the embedded audio, including audio that plays straight from the disk and not in memory, that I risk trashing the piece that I am trying to save. I just recently got a way to archive my stuff, since I am running out of disk space, but am now concerned that I may have to wait until SF comes up with a fix. True??????? tia dana |

This is only a concern if you're using 8-bit mono files within an embedded project. And if your 8-bit mono files have an odd number of samples. Hopefully, this won't affect most people, since most pro/consumer users would rather have a little extra HD space taken up, than have low- quality audio within their projects. For those who may be concerned about this, the update should be available on our website this week. In short, the temporary solution is to avoid 8-bit mono files, or to save your projects with external audio into individual directories. I hope this sheds some light. -Joel dana woodaman wrote: >>Is this true? Hey, thanks for getting back to me on this - youre right, I don't use 8-bit files at all, so this is not a concern then....but what the heck are odd-numbered samples???? thx Dana Joel wrote: >>This is only a concern if you're using 8-bit mono files >>within an embedded project. It is not true that only 8-bit mono files affected it. I was using 16 bit stereo files for the piece I did where the file was corrupted. I have to say, I have had a few problems as well. I ONLY use 16bit. But, I have had whole projects corrupted. I've found that if you are recording long, live track into Acid, then they should be disk-based loops and you should only save the projects as embedded audio. The only thing you can't do then is open the individual .wavs in SoundForge (it's embedded!) But, you can pretty much do everything you need to do in Acid. The only thing is... Don't save as external, make your changes, and then save again as embedded because that will corrupt it as well. Jt |
