The FLAC plug-in was a very pleasant surprise but I've found a few files won't open (the command line decoder has no trouble with them). Anyone else having any problems? |

It's still a problem in Vegas Pro 8 so it doesn't look as though they've looked into this yet. There's been no acknowledgement here (frustratingly) so maybe I'd better contact Customer Service. |

"A few files won't open" and "same here" isn't much to go on. Is there an error message? Can you could specify where the problem files came from or how to generate them? Can you share a sample file or send one to tech support? J. Message last edited on9/12/2007 8:36:07 AM byForumAdmin. |

Apologies for not having looked into this a bit closer before. I've now isolated the problem: any FLAC file with ID3V2 tags will not open. The only error message is as follows: Warning: An error occurred during the current operation. An error occurred reading the file. Make sure you have read access to the file/folder and that it is not corrupted. Removing the tags is trivial (using Tag - it's included with the official FLAC downloads) but the files are still kosher as far the FLAC command-line decoder is concerned so probably shouldn't be tripping up your plug-in. Thanks. |

Thanks everyone for providing information about problems with the FLAC plug-in and to those of you who sent us sample files. These problem files fall under two categories: 1) FLAC files that contain leading ID3 tags, and 2) poorly formatted/corrupt FLAC files. The former we cannot currently open and the latter can cause crashing. We have noted both problems in our bug database. There is some additional information about FLAC available here. Some of the relevant information is listed below: http://flac.sourceforge.net/faq.html What kinds of tags does FLAC support? FLAC has it's own native tagging system which is identical to that of Vorbis. They are called alternately "FLAC tags" and "Vorbis comments". It is the only tagging system required and guaranteed to be supported by FLAC implementations. Out of convenience, the reference decoder knows how to skip ID3 tags so that they don't interfere with decoding. But you should not expect any tags beside FLAC tags to be supported in applications; some implementations may not even be able to decode a FLAC file with ID3 tags. Corrupted FLAC files Some players might still be able to play corrupted FLAC files by skipping over bad sections of the file. Our applications must be able to seek and therefore require well-formatted files. If you come across a file that does not open in on of our application please try the FLAC command line tool that is provided with the SDK, available from the sourceforge link above. This command tool will verify the integrity of your media. Here is a sample output from a corrupted file: f:\xp32\main>flac.exe -tF "U:\testmedia\flac bug reported in forum\11.
