Subject:Midi overload

I'm a midi/soft synth newbi so bear with me. Every time I want a different voice/patch out of my soft synth, Absynth say or Guru, I'm resorting to creating a new bus, which I'm sure isn't right. How do I route different midi tracks with different patches through a single soft synth bus? Help appreciated!

Click the Program button in the track header of the MIDI track and choose Insert Program Change Keyframe. This will add a Program Change keyframe row at the bottom of the track. Then just double-click in the keyframe row wherever you want to add a program/patch change. Right-click on the new keyframe to select the program/patch you want.

Thanks JR. I think I got it. (I'm using Absynth 4). However, if I create another midi track and I still want to use Absynth with different voices, I seem to have to create another absynth bus ie using a single soft synth buss locks the voices across midi tracks assigned to it. Is that right?

It depends on the synth. If it's multi-timbral you will be able to assign different voices to different MIDI channels on separate tracks all with one Bus. If the synth is not multi-timbral then it will only play one patch at a time. I don't have Absynth so I can't say how it behaves.

Very clear - thank you. So far I would say Absynth isn't multi timbral, but I might be messing up the track settings.
