Subject:SYNC Logic, Acid, and Rebirth on the same PC with a GINA.

I've been experimenting with SYNCing LAW, ACID, and Rebirth on one PC with a GINA sound card and have encountered some problems/questions. - -- When using LAW, Rebirth and ACID at the same time I get the following error in ACID: "An error occurred while starting playback. Make sure your hardware is properly configured in preferences. The device specified is in use." I've concluded the error is referring to the sound card driver/s but can't seem to make it work regardless of the settings I use. It seems as though something is 'tying up' the sound card driver/s and will not let ACID access the specified output pair, which BTW is not being used by any other app at this time. It seems weird to me, why do either ACID or Rebirth work fine when sync'd ONE AT A TIME but not together? Once again, it seems to me that the 'sync' portion is working fine but the error is related to a sound card issue. Anyone else doing/done the same or perhaps have an answer? Thanks for your time and sorry for the length of this post. Sincerely, David K. McCutcheon |

"When using LAW, Rebirth and ACID at the same time I get the following error in ACID ... " Ah ... that's an easy one. The answer is this: ReBirth hogs your card. Yep, that's right. Try playing ANY audio stream that's NOT ReBirth when it's open. It won't work (unless you have multiple sound cards or special drivers to allow for multiple audio streams.) The reason for this is because ReBirth is set so that it starts instantaneously without the popping sound that sometimes occurs when the sound driver is initialized. You'll notice that Acid and Sound Forge and many others have a slight pause (I'm talking 10ths of seconds here) between pressing "Play" and actually hearing the audio stream. In that time is when the audio driver is initialized. The Propellerheads in their infinite wisdom decided that you shouldn't be able to change this either. You can't tell it to NOT hog the audio stream at all times. Sorry. Do this as a fix: Record all of your ReBirth lines to Wave files and then pull them into Acid. Voila! Hope that helps, -=[Stu]=- |

A device that ACID is trying to use must be inuse by something else. This is what the error means. How are you attempting to sync all of these? What MIDI Device is being used? Who is the slave? Who is the master? How is LAW mapped to the Audio Hardware? How is Rebirth mapped? How is ACID mapped? Almost true... I've got Rebirth 2.01 to sync with my fav. sequencing program, (both MIDI and audio play back perfectly) but once I tried to through acidpro into the situation acid said the card was in use. In order for Rebirth to play back audio with something else it has to be using the directx compatible driver for your soundcard, as well as any other audio you may be trying to play back... For some reason Acid does not recognize (show as an option) the directX version of my audiocard driver. clint.
