Subject:Trouble Splicing Tracks Posted by: wolfmk Date:3/19/1999 4:28:22 AM Hey There, I'm using Pandora's Toolbox file "44 Area 53." It is a long non-looped file. I'm trying to extend it. I would like to paint it onto the track a second time, then erase the first few bars of the second instance (because there isn't much activity there) and append it to the first track. I've erased a bit of the end of the first instance as it is silent. The problem is that I get an audible click/pause at the meeting point. Is this caused by the memory having to skip to a different part of the file? I'm using a P233 with 32MB of RAM. I tried duplicating the track and doing cross over volume fades. This was effective in mixing the file, but ACID couldn't save the project as there seemed to be a naming convention issue. I tried it again after saving "44 Area 53" as "44 Area 53b" from Sound Forge, and using that as the second track, but I got the same error message referring to a lack of disk space or not having write permission in the file or folder. The error stopped appearing when I deleted the duplicate track. Any ideas? Thanks, Wolf

The loop ends need to either be cross faded or meet at zero points. Let me know if you need any advice on how to accomplish this. Subject:Re: Trouble Splicing Tracks Reply by: MildredPierce Date:3/31/2000 3:35:00 AM This problem occures when the end of a loop contains samples which are in a positive range and the begining of the next samples are in the negative range, basically acid (and most sound programs) are reading where the two loops meet as a major spike, which sounds like a pop. To solve this you can apply a volume envelope to your loop and lower the volume at just the very begining, so that the volume is not even noticeable. I run into this problem a lot when I am creating melodies in cool edit. Because the melody is often sustained even beyond the loop (i.e. the loop cuts off and starts over before the melody is actually completed) there is often a pop where the loop begins and ends. I apply a fade out to the end of the melody, but only for just about 20 samples or so (not a lot!) and that kills the problem.
