Subject:3 questions - Loops from wavs ; ACID properties ; Song tempo

(posted this in Sonicfoundry general, here I go again - ) Hello Sonic Founders and everyone else here, (my first post here.. except for a little one back somewhere; it was getting rather awkward asking ACID questions in the cakewalk newsgroups!) Three Questions: 1. What's the easiest way to create a loop wav from a wav file with 4 beats and a little extra at the end if you know the tempo? What's the easiest way to do this with a bunch of files? i.e. if I record a midi drum loop as an audio file at 96 bpm and instead of stopping at the perfect end of the 4 beats it stops a little further. So I get a wav file a little longer than the loop. I know I can do it with an audio editing program a file at a time, but I have a lot of these files which can't be recorded again, any easy/quick.eficient way to do it; any way of doing this for all the files together? 2. I have a bunch of files ACID propertied as hard-disk based rather than loop-base playing. So I have to convert them to loop based a file at a time, when I use them. Any way of doing it for the whole bunch of files together? 3. If I have a wav rythm track, is there any way of finding the tempo at which it's been played? Again, it's for some files recorded from midi whose tempo I don't know and which I can't record again. Can I take a minute of the song and find the tempo at which it's been played? I need to find this to chop up loops from the wav (it would make it much easier) , and also to use it with some other midi/audio softwares. Thx, Neole P.S. Just saw Buce's (that's Bruce Richardson, from the Purple Iguana land) post in here - listen to his advice, he's good! |

Hey all! Okay, I'll try my hand at a few of these: "What's the easiest way to create a loop wav from a wav file with 4 beats and a little extra at the end if you know the tempo? What's the easiest way to do this with a bunch of files?" Okay, this one I figured out with a little math and some patience. Do this: 60/(Loop Tempo in BPM) * (number of beats in loop) = Total Loop Time For example, if I had a loop that was 4 beats long, and it was 120 BPM, the equation would be: 60/120 * 4 = 2.000 seconds. Check it, it's right. I've informed the Acid development team about how I'd love to see this whole process automated in a future release, and I even drew up a mock screenshot to illustrate just how easily it could be implemented using a special 'Record Type' addition to the recording dialog. With the same logic, even an outside loop could be Acid- ized automatically. Think of the time savings! (Check it out: http://soundworks.abyss.ab.ca/DialogBox.gif) "If I have a wav rythm track, is there any way of finding the tempo at which it's been played?" Yes, yes there is. Check out a freeware program called BeatCalc v2.5. It works well with source material of any length. (http://members.xoom.com/beatcalc/) I hope that these things help. Regards, -Stu |
