Subject:attn Chris M.-- my short list of must-haves

Hi Chris,

This is my short list of ACID must-haves for V.2:

1) Support of odd meters

We need the ability to work in triple and mixed meters along with the
supported duple meters. I would like to see a meter dialog that would
allow
specification of meter AND it's break down into "twos and threes."
As it
stands now, working in odd meters, or even very common 6/8 and 12/8
feels is
a real PITA.

2) Pre/Post volume routing on each Aux bus

Another PITA...it's really time consuming to draw identical envelopes
for
reverb, etc. A post-volume routing would allow the volume envelope to
drive
this type of effect, with no duplication necessary.

3) Nested effects within one aux bus

Although the SF Plugin Chainer could accomplish this (had it not been
"banned" from ACID's DirectX menu), it would be much nicer if the aux
bus
could just contain side-by-side chaining, with a drag and drop
interface for
switching the patching order.

4) Get rid of all those F*****G tools for stretch points

Shifting from tool to tool while setting stretch points drives me
completely
out of my mind. Not to mention the ergonomic disaster of bouncing
back and
forth. All three of those tools need to be combined into a single
tool:

a) Clicking where no stretch point exists to create one
b) Click-drag on handle to move an existing point
c) Right click on handle to delete

5) The ZOOM button should be a one shot

No one zooms twice. The zoom button should automatically revert to
the last
selected tool once the user has drawn a lasso. I also suggest adding
a
"zoom out" button that reverts to the previous zoom level in one
click.

6) We need an option for the cursor to remain in the "last stopped"
position, as well as the "last selected" position.

7) What is the possibility of creating a song-length "dummy track" for
Aux
returns that allows them to be automated by a volume envelope? Or
some
other means of automating the returns, maybe? I'm not much for the
"virtual
hardware" types of UI, but even automating the return volumes is
better than
nothing. Or is this just more load than the processor could bear? I
realize the amount of math that's happening.

8) I would love some sort of option to have the Properties | Track tab
|
Save As dialog default to the original location of the loop. That's
the
most efficient behavior for me about 99% of the time, and I suspect
anyone
else that works mainly with his own loops feels the same.

9) I have lost two great takes (one was with Chuck Rainey, making my
face
especially red), because I accidentally clicked the Record Dialog
"close"
button instead of stop. There should be NO WAY to ever lose a
recorded
take, even by hitting cancel, without a warning dialog.

10) Another processor issue, I'm sure, that there is no video
support.
Even some sort of static filmstrip mode would be a HUGE help though.
It is
a salute to ACID that I find myself wanting to use it to score to
picture,
however, the lack of any visual point of reference means that I'm
constantly
generating mixes, then exporting them into Cakewalk to build the
final
track.

The reason this list is so short, of course, is that ACID is really
well
conceived. You already know how I feel about it. These requests
should
really do it for me as far as basic usability issues are concerned.
ACID is
so much more than a looping tool, and

I don't know what happened to the end of the last post, but it
couldn't have
been that important anyway...

I hear you Bruce - I will add this to the list of ACID
features/enhancements we are keeping for the next version.
I am also a user of ACID and have already contributed some
of the same items to the list :-)

If anyone else has suggestions, feel free to post them
here. I can't guarantee you will see immediate results,
but it is our job to improve the software so info like this
really helps.

Chris.

I just want to second the request for the ability to show
video for synching and also (new) the ability to export to
quicktime.

Just wanted to add the need for some type of EQ or insert
effects. It would make Acid a truly complete mixing tool.

Yeah, Chris!
I haven't to add anything to your well sought off list.
(I had worked hardly with ACID last 5 or 6 monthes)
Just a little idea from my dance-loving friends:
an easy built-in cutoff filter: it seems to me more
easyer, then a real-time stratch, isn't it? It would be
fine to draw cutoff and resonance envelopes like volume
and pan.
Thanks

v2 has come and gone... no reason to end the wishlist tho :)

________
plz let me specify destination directories for ANY type of ACID
output file from a tab on the options page. also thank u Bruce for
suggesting that 'acidized' sounds saved from within acid should
default to their original location.

_________
insert fx & eq's are needed(thank u Ron). if acid had this it could
be my central multitracking software. this may be impossible because
the demand on CPU would be too great but if there is ANY possible way
to incorporate these much needed features... DO IT!

_________
odd meters? (thank u Bruce).... um this was just an oversight,
right? ;)

_________
a hybrid mode between 'looped' and 'one-shot' - a mode where i can
lay down 'one-shot' sounds (like usual) but also cut and paste
_segments_ of them within the time grid (like u can to looped
material) without the operations affecting the whole sound.

_________
a faster method of (permanently) assigning Acid properties to
samples - Does the properties tab in Acid REALLY have to be locked
out if i have more than one track selected? If it is absolutely
necessary that some properties be unique and exclusive to their
parent track, lock them out and let me access the others... I often
want to change the loop length or transpose key of multiple tracks at
once and doing each individually can sometimes be prohibitively
tedious :|

Also, Sound Forge 'Batch Converter' and 'Extract Regions' should be
allow you to specify Acid properties for output files.

ok that's it for now...tia

Some good ideas out there here are mine.

Micro-tuning please ! That is a huge one, I always have to go in Sound
Forge to tweak the tuning of my loops, it'd be much better to hear it
in context with the rest of the track than guessing and going back
and forth.

AVI support, everybody wants it and needs it, was announced to be in
2.0. Nuff said about that one.

When zooming in it go to cursor placement for quick edit.

Playlist based on markers so one can preview possible segment flow of
a song.

Smart copy. Using the loop region selector could copy everything
"underneath" it without having to go in every single tracks to "split
at cursor point". Then using the newly added paste inserts makes it
easy to copy large sections of a song.

I would like to see the "s" (previous slection) hot key from
SoundForge added to Acid. I haven't found a way (after selecting a
number of loops within a project and then accidently un-highlighting
them) of recovering my highlighted selections. Am I wrong?

What I really want to see is:

1. that I can drag a sample from one track and drop it into another

2. the pencil and the selecttool must be one. It`s a pitty to select
manyparts with the selecttool and then select the drawtool to copy it
with cntrl.
This must be as easy as with e.g. Logic Audio

3. I need crossfade parameters between the parts

4. It would be great to reverse parts of the samples

Subject:Feature Wanted: MIDI Loops

ACID's capability would be greatly enhanced if it could use General
MIDI loops in addition to WAV loops. In other words, you would simply
record a simple MIDI phrase into a sequencer, and then be able to
drag and drop it into ACID. The MIDI notes would play through the
output MIDI port(s) on your computer (to a synth or sound module), or
your sound card.

Better yet, it would be great to have a built-in automatic General
MIDI (or Roland GS or Yamaha XG) sound renderer so that when you drop
in a MIDI phrase, it would automatically be changed to the correct
key and tempo and then converted into a WAV (in that order). This
could perhaps be based upon the excellent engine found in the Roland
Virtual Sound Canvas 3 (VSC-88H3) which can convert GM/GS format MIDI
files into WAV files directly.

My point is that shifting the pitch and tempo in the MIDI domain
before converting to WAV would yield a much better sound quality
sample than having ACID stretch and tweak the WAV file directly. And
it would be perfect if ACID could automatically do all of this for
you.
