Subject:Recording disk based tracks (vocals, extra guitars, etc.) in real time

Hey folks!!! Just wondering. I was trying to record a vocal track over top of a bunch of tracks that I had laid down, and when I went to play it back, it was out of sync. The vocal track was ahead of the loops. Is this common? A fix that I actually haven't tried is to record w/ absolutely no other app's running in the background. I tried a couple of times and couldn't get it right. I ended up saving my acid project as a wav file, opening it in Cakewalk, recording the vox, then saving those and taking them back over to Acid. This worked fine, but is kind of a hassle. (I actually recorded about 4 or 5 tracks this way for this song.) I am actually using Acid PH1 (Acid Music). My system is an AMD K6-2-400 w/ 64 mb EDO ram. Sound card is a SB Awe 64. I also thought that maybe there could be a [problem w/ syncing because the card is an ISA card and not PCI> Not sure... Also... has anybody tried the express FX plug-ins? I messed a little with the demo version. They seemed passable. I actually used the fx in Cakewalk to add reverb etc. to the vox and guitar tracks I recorded, but was wondering aboput using FX in Acid. Also, can you use more than one effect at a time? And while I'm here... lol Has anybody used Sound Forge XP much? I checked the demo's, mainly interested in checking fx for compression, etc. It worked pretty well (Cooledit's compression seemed to do literally nothing at all). Then however I made the mistake of using the Sound Forge 4.5 demo, and the compression was awesome. But I don't wanna spend $250... Is XP a good investment? ($35 can't probably go wrong huh?) Thanks everyone!!! |

SFXP 4.5 has that same awesome compression. I use SFXP 4.5 all the time for recording samples, prepping samples for ACID Music, and prepping audio files for RealAudio conversion. You *can't* go wrong with SFXP. It's the ideal companion to ACID Music. SFXP can use those Xpress FX, too, btw! --.\\<-H-- |

You can't go wrong with the full-blown Sound Forge 4.5, either. It would be a good value at twice the price. -- Bruce A. Richardson Purple Iguana Productions bandmaster@sprynet.com >You *can't* go wrong with SFXP. It's the ideal companion to >ACID Music. SFXP can use those Xpress FX, too, btw! |

I'm having similar problems with loops being one tempo and disk and oneshots running at another. The oneshots were recorded live to the loops at the current tempo. I've read several similar messages like this and the one below and haven't seen a single response deal with the problem. Any takers? Alex Kreutzer wrote: >>Hey folks!!! >> >>Just wondering. If I decide to delete this take and attempt a second or third take, it will be out of sync. I thought I had found the solution. ACID allows you to set your starting point for recording at any point within the song but it does not always default to the beginning. But that doesn't really seem to be the cause of the syncing problem. I'm thinking the snap to function would actually make it worse if you are recording live vocals, since a singer's voice may not start exactly at the point ACID is snapping to, but I get the same results with snap to enabled and disabled. Is this common? I remember having similar problems to yours. I believe in order to solve the problem you will have to select the freshly recorded track and to go into the track settings and: 1. make sure that the track is set to 'disk based' (Short tracks tend to default to 'loop', which will often put the track out of sync.) 2. make sure the 'Stretch from tempo' selection is *UN-checked*, for when it is checked it will often stetch your track to a tempo that is unrelated to the tempo you have set to your song (also, even if you set the tempo to match the tempo you have set to your song you will still get an odd flange-type effect on the track that is supposedly not stetched (which can be used for effect tho!)) also! If you are erasing bits of your track using the eraser it will often knock the track out of wack. If you want to erase portions of a track your best bet is to select the spot where you want to start the erasing and spliting it (hit the s key) and then do the same for where you want the erase to end. select that portion and just delete it. Make sure that you don't have the 'lay looped' setting activated, for this will cause it to record where ever you have the blue looped bar set. Also, if you are recording an audio-in track that crosses over a tempo change, this can cause problems sometimes. But I note this only as a side-note, for I doubt this is your problem. If these work, let us know. And if it does work download some of my music from: http://www.mp3.com/76/ .. ;) Mildred Pierce popamericana.com bananadine.com >>I'm having the same problem.
