Subject:where do I put my loops

I have the same problem as the previous acid users inquiry.
I have to keep switching out disks to load loops from
different loop libraries to a single project. Is there a
better way to organize my loops? Is it necessary to put
them all on my hard drive, help! It would also be helpfull
if we could see the replies to these questions on the forum
without waiting for someone to reply to the same question.
Anyway, I quess it is worth it, because ACID is the most
addictive and usable program I have ever seen. Good work
SF keep the updates coming. Also I highly recomend the
Bill Laswell sampler to all those who aren't completely
techno. It's goot the most usable loops I have seen so far.

you can save your acd projects as "external" or "embedded".
these save all of the loops in use with that acd file.
"external" saves the acd file and all of the loops as seperate files
to a
single location. (like a folder on you hard drive).
"embedded" includes all of the loops embedded in the acd file itself.
if you have 20 mb of loops, the file is (1) 20 mb acd file.
when opened, all of the loops are available and editable like in a
normal
project.

Be really really carefull when you save a project as "Embedded", especially if you're using wav
files in a song that aren't directly off a SOnic Foundry loops CD. I spend four hours on a project
once and had it at a level that I was really happy with, I saved it as an embedded file (I too was
completely sick of swapping CDs or copying all Wavs used by hand to a local directory) and
presto...I ost 4 hours work. The file saved fine but when I attempted to reopen it as soon as it
hit one of the files that weren't SFoundry native it gave an error about being unable to read the
header file info and as it does when it's interupted in building a song it kust stopped there and
didn;t add any more tracks. If you're really unlucky like me the disruptive wave will be about
10% into the tracklist so essentially you've lost all your work. This has happened to a bunch of
people I know....best thing is so save "Externally" unless you're working specifically within the
confines of the loops libraries.

Acid is one of the most intuitive pieces of software I have ever used, it's limitations\bugs are
very few and far between....but just be wary that this is one that can be nasty.

Well the bottom line for the disk switching pain in the butt, is to
copy all the loops from any loop cd you use into a dedicated folder
on your harddrive. Of course it helps if you have alot of space
available. (Depending on how many loops you are copying)I have 4 cds
of acid loops on a 9.1gig drive, plus of course windows, other
programs, etc. and I still have 4gigs available, more than enough for
a HUGE library of loops! It also helps if you don't put loops on your
drive that you know you'll never use. For example, the acid disk has
alot of rock loops that I don't use for techno, so I never copied
them, and saved alot of space. If you have a small hard drive, just
try copying the disk you use most, one less to switch. Hope this

A technique I use and that I found to be helpful is to save all of
the wavs used in a project to a zip disk. Everytime I open my Acid
project it knows to search my zip disk for the wav files. I usually
assign 1 or 2 projects per disk. This works great for me because I
don't have to do alot of searching to find the wav files. They're all
right there in one spot on my zip disk. It keeps the project very
organized.
A word of caution about using this technique is to create backup
files and store them on separate zip disk. Computers are excellent
tools, but once in a while they screw up. Every so often, my computer
likes to change the actual wav content and mix one file with another.
When this happens, I simply delete the corrupted file and replace it
with the backup version.
I have used other music programs, and I must say that Acid music
by far out shines them all. It is the extremely intuitive and user
friendly.

Hi Marc,
The Laswell CD is cool but strange. It's got a lot of treated samples
and ethnic stuff,ambient textures etc... I like it. It's $59.95 on
the Sonic Foundry shop. It's not available at soundsonline.com though
a lot of of other Acids cd's are. They are 49.95 on soundsonline.
