Subject:Do I have to copy loops to a different directory?

Right now I only have the acid music program loops, but I
ordered 2 discs of loops to use... I know when I try to
load a song right now, if my Acid cd isn't in the drive, it
tells me it can't find the file (obviously). But then if I
tell it not to search in a new location, it skips the
file. If I am using loops from multiple discs, will I have
to load them into a folder on my hard drive in order to use
them all at once? It isn't a big deal, and I guess over
the long run would be easier than switching the cd 3 times
or whatever for each song if I am working on it alot...
just curious...

By the way... AWESOME PROGRAM!!!

I find when usin' any material that once choosen for that
song, storing them in a file with song name until exported
is the wisest route. If you do not, then you will be faced
with far more than one request for a new location as you
have probably moved tracks around, or choosen loops etc
from other sources. It is not impossible to have to take
the same cd's in and out many times as it request's the
source in the order it is in tracks, first track, second
track. Not the order you put them in, so unless you can
rememmber the order and keep things in that order, forget
this. And if you introduce sounds from inside your PC, it
would become more *%*^((^%$!If you ever move a file your in
for a treat .You could put all the loops on your disc, but
I don't see a need for that as the exporer window is great
for CD's, or internal use.Pick your loops in usual manor.
Take the loop into your editor and store a copy from there
on your Drive in a named file,(name of song) Import it
back into Acid from the explorer window. If you only use
half of the loops in that song file ,it makes no
difference. When you have exported or whatever your doin'
with the song delete the file. This can take alittle time
but works for me.As far as the DO NOT SEARCH IN NEW
LOCATION goes, the program does not backup for you,no new
location we're movin' on.Don't press save to try and
salvage your song in a panic as it will save the new
mutated version. The longer you collect loops etc. the more
important it is to have a system that works for
you.Figuring out what works best for you now, will save
lots of grief in the future. MHO Jamie

you can save your acd projects as "external" or "embedded".
these save all of the loops in use with that acd file.
"external" saves the acd file and all of the loops as seperate files
to a
single location. (like a folder on you hard drive).
"embedded" includes all of the loops embedded in the acd file itself.
if you have 20 mb of loops, the file is (1) 20 mb acd file.
when opened, all of the loops are available and editable like in a
normal
project.

Remember that ACID uses RAM for all its operations. You
load from CD Rom into RAM, not onto the Hard Disk. When you
save your work you can save all your settings so that your
screen reappears next time you open the program. It still
has all the info on it, shows all the names etc., but the
audiofiles get flushed out of your RAM as soon as you leave
ACID. The only way to store your sounds permanently, and
the most convenient too if you use several different CD
Roms for a single project is to store them on your Hard
Disk or any permanent storage to your liking.

you can copy all of your sound discs to your hard drive, if
you really want to do that, and just save all of your
projects as acd. file w/embedded audio, in that way,
recognizing the path to that particular, "lost" loop. and
i'm pretty sure that if you do have all of your usable
loops on your harddrive, then if you save them as regular
acd. files, you still wont have a problem.

Given the price decline in hard drives, it would be wise to get
another harddrive and place all your loops in appropriate
directories. The transfer rates from a harddrive vs a cdrom are so
much faster.

Once you have all the loops arranged from one CD save your project as
an acid file with embedded audio. This option is where you go
File>Save as> the drop down menu below the file name...
