Subject:Request for a modified Open option

I have a proprietary file from a digital 911 system that is really a standard RIFF/WAV file (GSM 6.10-encoded) with a unique header (close to 2000 bytes) slapped onto the front of the file by the recording system. I was able to simply remove the unique header bytes with separate software, save the modified version to a new file with a .wav extension, and then open the file directly in SF9.0c. No problem!

However, what I was hoping for was a method for opening the proprietary file directly in SF9.0c by simply stating an offset to move past the unique header and open the GSM 6.10 file starting from that point. I thought that opening the proprietary file as a "raw" file would work, but the problem is that GSM 6.10 is not one of the file format options. So while I can state the offset in bytes, I can't select the correct audio encoding.

What I need is an Open option which allows me to move beyond the unique header to the start of the RIFF header, and then let Sound Forge identify the file from there based on the RIFF header contents (which it obviously reads correctly, per my version minus the unique header).

Any recommendations? Possibly something to include in a future update to SF9.0? :)
