NEW PC - DVD Arc 4 Blue Screens

I built a new PC with Intel ICH9R chipset (Gigabyte P35-DQ6 motherboard).

I also have an Asus IDE DVD burner and Lite-On SATA burner. On my old PC I had no problems burning DVD with DVD Architect 4, on this new computer, I cannot burn any DVD.

I know the problem, but how to fix it????

The problem is that I have my disk system set up as AHCI. I've got 3 SATA drives, the SATA burner and an IDE burner. With AHCI enbled, I click MAKE A DVD, and nothing happens - after about 30 seconds, the PC blue-screens with a STOP error.

If I go into the options and disable "Scan For Plug And Play Devices" the burn dialog will show up and I can prepare or render the project, but cannot burn it as no dirves show up.

If I go into the BIOS and change the disk mode to IDE, burning works fine and I have no problems. However, I then lose the advanced features of my SATA devices - and my drive locations are switched around.

In order to burn a project with DVDA 4, I have to change the disk mode to IDE, then reboot, and change it back to AHCI again in the BIOS.

This is a real pain. Is there any workaround that does not involve changing disk mode to standared IDE?

Full specs

Gigabyte P35-DQ6 / Intel ICH9R chipset
Core 2 duo 3 Ghz - 1066 Mhz FSB
4 x 1 GB DDR2 Dual Channel 1066 RAM
2 x 750GB Seagate SATA drives
1 x 1TB Hitachi Drive
Running AHCI Mode - NO RAID
Asus DRW 1814BL IDE DVD Burner
Lite-On DVDRW LH-20A1L SATA DVD Burner
SB Audigy Platinum
Windows XP SP2 w/all updates

I am using DVDa 4.0b / Vegas 7.0e

I have had to default to making DVD's with Nero Vison, which works fine in AHCI mode - but produces lousy looking menus.

Any Suggestions? I am also going to send this as a support request.

The work around I use is to "prepare" the files in DVD Architect (create the DVD file structure with menues, media, etc.) and then burn those files to the DVD using Nero. If I've read your message correctly both of these functions work when you are using AHCI and you've disabled "Scan for Plug And Play Devices".

It's a two step process, but easier than rebooting to change the disk mode to IDE.

I have an Intel D975XBX2KR LGA 775 Intel 975X ATX MB which uses the ICH7R chipset. I have have all SATA devices and at Intel's recommendation I enabled RAID not AHCI even though I have nothing configured as a RAID. In the RAID mode it supports both RAID and AHCI. It has been a while since I put the system together so I don't remember all the details. Everything runs as SATA and I get the performance and it works with DVDA4. I will see if I can find the links.

The P35-DQ6 has two SATA controllers: the ICH9 and a separate one. My setup works and is:

The hard drives are on the ICH9 controller (yellow connectors) in AHCI (or in my case RAID) mode. The burners are on the second controller (black connectors) and IDE mode is selected in BIOS. Note that the two controllers have two separate entries in BIOS.

Hope this helps
