I've been given a piece of music to 'repair' - in so far as it was mixed badly and there is a lot of clipping. The composer does not have the original tracks. My initial response was I won't make this any better, but as it's my wife who uses it as part of her act and it was she who requested/demanded assistance, I'm required to try! Is there some way to re-record in Acid without losing too much fidelity?

You know what they say: Garbage in, garbage out.

You can try Sound Forge's clipped peak restoration tool. (Tools > Clipped Peak Restoration on the menu bar.) But the best way is to make sure the audio never clips in the first place.

And since you don't have the original tracks, there's no way to individually tweak sounds without affecting the whole mix.

I feared as much. Thanks. I'll try SF.
