Subject:S F sometimes likes to make a dreadful roar!

I don't get it. Sometimes during editing there appears a sudden and really dreadful noise, roar or scream. It is like an echo of last sound clip I played back. That is: I am playing back a few seconds of any sound, going back to editing and at least expected moment there a big roar blows out. I am worried about my monitors. As far they are not damaged. But these horrible sounds are different in pitch, volume etc. What can it be? Maybe Satan is encoded! Sorry for my English. |

Maybe you have set playback to loop, and you have a short bit of audio selected? |

I don't think so. It has nothing to do with looping playback. I imagine that as if sound clip stays in the SF memory and in a few moments jumps out with doubled volume for very short time. |

Maybe it's a driver issue? Try increasing the buffer settings for your audio interface? Could be electrical interference/faulty power source too. Use some sort of power conditioner like a UPS. Iacobus |

I get the same effect - but it happens only when cursor seek is on. Try turning it off and see if that makes a difference, then report back. If enough people are suffering, they might investigate! In my case, Dell PC with Creative Audigy 2 ZS card - nothing special. |

Thank you! So far it works. I turned off "Seek cursor on playback" in Options menu. Also sound drops disappeared. |

tididit was right. There is no roaring sound anymore when the seek cursor is switched off. But instead there is one in a loopback mode. I experienced it while playing back in Loop Preview. I think this is a bug, sorry. |

Hi, I have also this "dreadful noise, roar or scream". in SF 9c and cannot get rid of it. Its mainly when I playback mp3 or wav. It appears irregularly between every 5 and 60 seconds. This does NOT happen in SF 8d! I use latest rme asio-drivers. Have you recently identified this bug? I appreciate your help. thanx. |

OK. The riddle solved! After several months of going nuts trying to figure out where the problem lies I just changed a power supply unit to Corsair 520 W. Unbelievable, but all the problems with "roaring" or "dreadful" sounds has gone. Furthermore - which I am most happy about - SF does not restart my computer anymore. Sorry Sony guys - it was not your fault at all. I had an incorrect and old power supply unit. Now I can work on my projects in real comfort. Aha, getting rid of ground loop is really helpful too. |
