Subject:System Recommendation for SF9?

It seem that SF9 is running slow on my laptop. For example, if I do a copy/paste, the program hangs for a while than catches up. What sort of MHz/RAM and hardware are adequate to support the program. Are there settings that can be tweeked?
Thanks
Mark

It would probably be better to state what you have first, and then and pitfalls could be find that way. Otherwise all sorts of suggestions will come up that probably won't actually answer your question.

Secondly, have you applied the update - there are some nice performance gains in it..

Here are my specs:
Dell Inspiron 5150 laptop, Windows XP Pro version 2002 SP2
Mobil Intel(R) Premium(R) 4 CPU 2.80 GHz 512 Ram
Do I need to post any other specs?
I am just running a couple of channels and currently not working with files in their original form much larger than 33000 KB (wave). I am converting those to MP3 almost immediately and manipulating tracks from there. The slowness occurs among other places when I cut from one track and paste to the other.
I am using the Trial version of SF9. What update are you referring to?
Thanks
Mark

A few days ago the v9b (build 397?) update was released. There is definitely performance gain from installing that alone.
Try it if you haven't already got that version.

I think when you convert to mp3 and work on the files, it still creates a temp uncompressed version - try working from wave and editing as wave until finished, then save as mp3. I really could be wrong on the temp render bit though - so don't treat it as gospel..

There is a possiblity that the RAM you have is a little on the lean side - depends on what other resources you have running and eating into it. I'm running (amongst others) a p4 3ghz, 1gb RAM, slowww 40GB drive under vista basic (crappy onboard 64mb graphics) and I don't have any problems running v9, except waiting a couple of second for the screen to update when I make a save.

Hope that helps you in some way

Ken

I think I have the most recent build. I think I will try adding a little ram.
Thanks for the help

I don't get these anything like what you decribe on a 1G7 laptop with 256MB Ram of which 96MB is pinched for video ! I guess we should be looking for something else hogging either resources or causing bottlenecks.

Do you have AV (etc) running ? Office/Realplayer/Nero/Adobe/Musicmatch background quick-start applications, Google desktop. etc ?

Another option would be to look into drivers and so forth. but as mentioned- are things tying up the resources you already have.?

I ordered a Gig of Ram today. We'll see how that affects things. I am not running anything else at the same time at least knowingly. Should I expect to see a "process" in Windows Task Manager/Processes tab, using a lot of the RAM during a slow down? I don't have any AV on board. I'll repost after I receive the RAM and let you know if that fixed the problem.
Thanks
