I am taking an DV .avi clip in, processing the audio, then saving as VFW DV format. I assume this is how I should save it out but it takes a good bit of time to save and it got me wondering whether it's recompressing the video. Is it? |

not saying it doesn't recompress, but is the partition for temporary files set to the same partition on which you are saving the DV file? if not, then it would need to copy the temp file from one partition to the other during saving, which can take quite some time with big files. just an idea... |

Sony tells me it DOES recompress with each save even if using same codec as the original. Not happy about this..I guess I will kludge the "take" function in Vegas to do what I want without tampering with the video. |

I think once you've tried the take function a bit you'll end up liking it that way a lot better anyway. It's faster, more flexible, and it's non-destructive. It's also just about completely transparent. Use "open copy in sound forge", make the edits, close the file in sound forge and say yes to saving the file. When you pop back over to Vegas the edited audio is already loaded as a take and selected for you. Really the only difference you'll see is a huge speed increase. This process does create additional .wav files to store the edited audio so you will have to keep that in mind if you move or backup your project. But, if you're using dedicated folders for each project then this becomes pretty brainless anyway. |
