Vocal Eraser was only included with Sound Forge Audio Studio 9.0. If you happen to have Audio Studio 9.0 installed, it will also show up Pro.

You don't need a specific tool for this... you can use some of the existing functions in SF. Check out the following articles:

* Eliminating the Lead Vocal

* Extracting the Lead Vocal

It does seem a bit strange that the basic version of Sound Forge has plugins that the Pro version doesn't. Even if there are workarounds, the quality of izotope plugins are generally excellent so it would be good for this plugin to be included for Pro users.

The Pro version has the channel converter. Within the Channel converter there is a "Vocal Cut" preset. It's probably the same thing as the vocal eraser since they all work in a similar manor. One is just called "Vocal Erasure", since it's kind of a dumbed down version for users that are not so in tune with how the process works within a channel converter. So it is in the Pro version, it's just called something different and under a different process.

It's really nothing to be shocked about that the Pro version, would do it in a manor that most audio professionals understand and the consumer version makes it an easier simpler process without all the additional tweaking adjustment found in the Pro version.

I agree the capability is in SF9. It was in 8 as well, and I don't remember any farther back as that's the only other version currently installed on my machine. I think the problem is the one in Audio Studio is advertised as coming from Izotope, and that makes some of us feel we aren't getting something that should be a no brainer for inclusion in the Pro package. Wouldn't it be nice to feel like Sony is concerned about how its customers feel about what they are getting.

No argument, SF9 is a great product, though it's beginning to feel like the promised update is delayed a little tooooooo long, but don't you get the felling with each new release that nobody that's sitting on the throne at Sony gives a s*** about the customers reaction to the product.

Am I shocked about the fact they haven't included the Isotope plugin in SF9. No not really. Will it make a difference in how I use the product? No, vocal removers are a joke anyway. Does that mean I don't care what has been left out, or removed from a product? NOT EVEN A LITTLE BIT. No tirade - just an ongoing observation.

" No, vocal removers are a joke anyway."

To me that's a good indication that you wouldn't want that in a Pro level app, no?

Myst - You have a good point, but they do include the vocal remover in the Channel Converter. It think it's more a feeling that an obviously much more limited, and less costly, program includes a plugin that Sony obviously paid for . Shouldn't the Pro program get at least everything the more limited program includes - and more.

Like I say - production wise this really doesn't effect most of us. I'm just adding my two cents to the discussion.

Be well!

Yeah, I guess you're right. They should have dumbed down the vocal remover in the Pro version also. They probably should have taken it one step further in the Pro version also, and make it a big huge button named Vocal Eraser on the front of the GUI.

But instead they put it as a preset in the Channel converter tool where only a pro would know where to look for it. Geez...what where they thinking?

No... I seriously don't think so.

Just because Sony has (wisely) seen fit to give the hobbyist a one-button-solution for the vocal removal tool doesn't mean that it is a more complete solution.

Vocal removal is still a joke for any Pro (see FAQ #6), but I'm guessing Sony has the preset in SF for the hobbyist moving to the Pro level app.

I totally agree. Personally I would be suspect and wary of any so called professional app that included a "vocal removal" feature in their marketing literature.
