OT: No sound from Firefox

Billy d wrote on 7/26/2007, 7:48 PM
I can't figure out how to get the sound from web sites to play using Firefox (version2).
My Audigy 2 card is set to play "What U Hear" and all the inputs are enabled.
In Firefox file types (under Options) most of the file types (wav aif etc) were set to use a quick time codec. I changed wav to use my VLC Media player but still no sound.
VLC works fine on local wav files.
Is there a trick I'm missing?
TIA.

Thanks for the info, your setup looks much like mine.
I have a feeling my problem may have its roots in the way I have W2K setup.
Although sfx from the pc are activated, and working.

Possibly, you may need to reinstall Firefox. I just upgraded to the most recent version and except for being a bit slower, the sound works fine. (actually, it was slow when I 1st installed but has gotten better over the last few days)

Thanks for the reply but I figured it out. (with a lot of help!)
There's a great Firefox help on this at

Brilliant stuff, my problem was I needed to configure the Quicktime plugin for Firefox to play mp3 and mpeg.

Okay, now if you're curious, mosey on over to the website I maintain to see if it will play Flash audio. A song should begin within a second or two on the home page.
