I work in radio and record voice tracks daily. My work computer is Windows XP. I've used Sound Forge 7 and maybe two months ago, it started skipping while recording. I upgraded to Sound Forge 9 and am still having the same problem. I had no problems for over two years.

I also use Sound Forge 9 at home with Vista. I record mixes and this is also skipping.

Now it doesn't skip all the time, but it happens to frequently. Is there anything I need to fix this problem? I like the ease of Sound Forge and do not want to look for a new program, but if this cannot be fixed I will have to.

Thanks for your help.

That's about as vague as a problem can get. My gut reaction is that your drive is getting to the point where it's becoming, or is already, horribly fragmented and the system is bogging down while it hunts for free blocks to write the data. A tidy drive makes for a good recording.

It could also be the sound card, your system on the whole might be getting flakey, the drivers may be dated or need updating.

Or if you're on a network and storing data outside the local system, then your network may be contributing to the issue (I've had that happen before - thank goodness for 1G networks).

For a problem to just spontaneously crop up like that...I dunno. If changes haven't been made to the system itself, then the drive and its health are the first thing I'd look to.

I appreciate the response. I keep my computer clean and do defragment and have a back-up drive that I use once a month. I would blame it on the computer (and can and will look into it), but it's happening on my brand new computer at home also. It just seams ironic it would happen on two clean computers.

Seeiing how it's happening on two different PCs with the same software, one WOULD tend to look at the software, however record problems within SF are usually not an issue if this forum is any indication.
Are the record buffers set at the default, that's about the only thing I can think of within SF, I would look for other similarities in your PCs that experience the skipping issues.
Some things to do , shut down all applications especially anti virus, screen savers & firewalls. Anti virus app.s have been known to cause record and PB irregularities.
What sound cards are you using?

Please fill out your system specs in your profile.
