missing frames on capture

A second problem on a different computer of mine.

I installed MSP8 on my desktop and uploaded a tape from my camcorder via firewire and edited a project just fine. But .. for some reason I couldn't burn it to DVD .. so I went a purchased a new DVD drive .. a Lightscribe capable drive with Nero software.

After installing the software and hardware I burned my DVD successfully .. BUT .. the next time I tried to upload a tape I was missing frames like crazy!!

I tried unistalling Nero .. no difference. There is no option to unistall Lightscribe.

I ended up finding a workaround. I am able to do a firewire transfer just fine using Windows Movie Maker .. then I load the file into MSP8 and go from there .. but there has to be a reason MSP8 is missing frames on capture. Any ideas?

More details about how the new DVD burner was installed? It sounds like something you've done has slowed down your disk transfer rates to the drive you were capturing too. Unfortunately, the VMS/Vegas capture utility doesn't seem to understand the concept of buffering frames in memory, so on a slow disk frames get dropped.

A swag would suggest that the new burner was installed on the same IDE interface as your capture drive, which could potentially slow things down.

I had the same swag as Scott. Have you set the jumper correctly on the new burner - you should have the drives set to master / slave or both set to cable select. Another thing to check would be the DMA settings for your drives.

I've just noticed the last paragraph of your post - it makes an IDE problem look less likely! I assume you're capturing to the same drive?
