Sometimes you have to tell what channel to transmit through when using a MIDI keyboard. What's the USB MIDI cable brand?

Hi Lacobus, Thanks for replying..
It is a no name usb device. It is showing a red light only. My studio is showing auto enabled on preferences and midi on record window. Strangly if I mix midi cables incorrectly I do get some lines on the recording window as if it is receiving something but no playback. The orange light then flashes. My unit is an old Tecknics KN400 with a fair bit of instruction for transfering midi data to another instrument but little about computers. I think the cable is OK, how do you tell what channel to use? Thanks...Tony.

Not clear on what you want to do.

Send MIDI from ACID to the KN400 so it plays its internal sounds?

Send MIDI from the KN400 and have it trigger a softsynth?

The KN400 is connected to a usb MIDI interface.

KN400 MIDI In to USB MIDI Interface MID Out
KN400 MIDI Out to USB MIDI Interface MIDI IN

Where are the audio outputs of the KN400 connected to?

Have you then enable the USB MIDI Interface MIDI Input and Output in ACID's MIDI preferences page

Hi Peter,
Just want to record stuff from keyboard onto Sony Studio 6.
On preferences for midi, the midi Port usb is enabled and 'midi threw to' is on auto. There is nothing showing up as enabled on the midi from section, usb or sw synth,(top section of window)
On the record window it has Record device as usb device, but none in the midi threw. You can select Usb or Usb (2). I am a novice with this which adds to my confusion. Summary: record keyboard sounds onto Studio 6 from keyboard through usb midi. I am wondering if I must programme keyboard. Regards...Tony No audio connected to anything at moment. Can connect to an amp.

Peter

Hi Peter,
I want to record data from my stand alone electronic keyboard as in musical notes onto the studio software. I presume this is audio data. Tony.

Sounds like you want to record MIDI "notes".

To do this you need to set up a MIDI track to record. This is covered in the online help and the users guide.

You sound very inexperienced so I would suggest checking that you have the midi cables plugged into the correct port on you keyboard. Midi in goes to the midi out on the keyboard. Midi Out cable goes to the midi in on the keyboard.

Those generic USB midi cables are really krap. I've tried two of them. Rubbish.

This may be your problem.

You need to send the audio from the keyboard to the computer too if you want to actually record the sounds.

Hope this works.

Hi audiophile,
YES it works. Orange light still flashes but it records and plays back.
I had the midi wires in wrong spots and had not enabled the DLS syn. Thanks for all your help. Tony
