Subject:Input Levels when Recording (beginner)

Hello. I currently use Acid Pro 6.0 and plug all my instruments into an M Audio Firewire 410 audio interface. In Acid, when I arm a track for recording, I adjust all levels in order to record with the highest signal without the clip light of the Acid meter coming on. My problem is, after achieving a steady green recording level in Acid, I'll notice that on my M-Audio mixer, the input meter indicates I'm clipping. Should I then lower my levels in order to not clip in Acid AND in the M Audio mixer page? Thanks.

Yes.

Each stage of the audio chain should be set for it's own best signal-to-noise ratio, which usually is as loud as possible without clipping. If any stage clips, then the signal is clipped.

Thank you for clearing this up.
