Subject:SoundForge 9 clicks on zoom

New Soundforge9 install, clicks and pops happen on zoom past 2-3 levels (very light zoom) gets worse as zoom increases. Happens at even the highest buffer settings in either ASIO mode or MME.

Tested on multiple systems with same results.
system 1 -
XP Home SP2 All latest updates, FW800, CPU, and memory leak hotfixes
Asus P5W DH Deluxe, Intel Core2Duo E6600, 4GB DDR2 667
3 7200 RPM Seagate HDD, nVidia 7300GT, RME Fireface 800

system 2 -
XP Home SP2 All latest updates, FW800, CPU, and memory leak hotfixes
Intel d975XBX2, Intel Core2Duo E6700, 4GB DDR2667
3 7200 RPM Seagate HDD, Matrox 650, RME Fireface 800

Other software that is/has been installed and/or tested on these systems and does NOT have audio problems: Sonar 6.2.1 Producer, Sony Vegas+DVD, Sony Acid Pro 6, Steinberg Cubase4.03, Wavelab 6. Both systems were also tested with 2GB of RAM.

Is there a Soundforge system setting I can change to help this? I've built more than a few DAWs and these are fully optimized for audio. Latest drivers for everything listed. NOTE: tried an additional Soundforge8 install and it has the exact same issues on both configurations.

Also happens on fresh WindowsXP loads on either RME or MOTU drivers. Anyone successful with Soundforge on a 975 chipset mobo? I opened a ticket last week, but no help there.

I'm relieved (I think) to know that this is not just my system doing this - I had no problems with the earlier version, but the clicks and pops started with the V 9 install. I have tried every trick I could think of to eliminate it. My audio hardware is MOTU 2408 (PCI-424).

I haven't been able to repro this myself, yet, but will keep looking. Probably unrelated, but just for my own edification, what file type and format is playing and how are you zooming (wheel, keyboard, scroll buttons)?

It doesnt seem to do it on straight wav files, but on any encoded files (wma, mp3) it does. zoom is by mouse or click on +. What chipset are you testing on? I'm only getting this on 975's. Which is important because thats our main boards chipsets.

I'm currently running a 955X and G965.

If this occurs in Forge and not in ACID, I get the feeling it is probably drawing related. Here are a couple tests that might help diagnose:

1) Either disable scrolling (Options menu) or minimize the window after you zoom in and start getting clicks. You could also try backing off the video hardware acceleration a notch or two in Windows.

2) Are the files on a network drive? Rendered elsewhere? Might just try to repro with a local file rendered from Forge 9.0.

3) Anything look fishy on the Performance tab in Task Manager when the clicking starts?

4) Anything else on Firewire hooked up? Is the MOTU device PCI?

I had to get this back to the client. I informed him of the limitations and offered him a great deal on Wavelab.

This was a very basic install. RME Fireface 800, local files, audio optimized and streamlined OS. Just like the thousands of other audio PCs we have being used by happy customers. Video settings were some of the first things I tried, and they had no affect.

We'll do some further testing once we get our in-house copy for testing. For some reason it hasnt showed up yet.
