Subject:A6 Pro -2 questions to PRO's

1-A6 just started doing this when i open it:

..it starts running this "opening media library: default" search window every time i open it-it never did before, how to stop it?

not sure if its due to some recent prog's loaded or due to an an update when it 'checks the net' ??

2-When i REC Stereo Audio in, the Audio inputs SEEMS (it could be me) 'vague' and have a poss. phase issue that doesnt seem as 'clear' (at same bit rt, etc) as my old Sound Forge, is Sound Forge input Audio Recorder more accurate?

I have the right soundcard set up (echo MIa) and it is set on same settings as SF.

thanks,
GES

system:

Win XP Pro-Intel 4 3.2gb
Asus MB
1Gig Ram
300gb HD

1 - Sounds weird. Shouldn't be doing that. Maybe try a reinstall?

2 - I'm not sure what could be causing that. I have an Echo MiaMIDI. Sometimes I record stereo but I have no problems.

You're not recording two different tracks with the same input with input monitoring active, are you? ACID Pro will tell you which input is active via the input selector button when you go to arm a track. Click this button to change input (and toggle input monitoring; unless you want to use effects in real-time while recording dry, it should be off).

Yeah, i think you are right. i think it is a Direct Monitoring clash with Input Monitoring. i think i have resolved it (maybe) but can you tell me your Sony (Acid- SF9) AND Mia settings? I get confused, as i have 3 diff Mia manuals, all are different with NO basic setup (except SF wants Purewave).

I just record 1 or 2 track (not multichans) , and i think i am now using Dir-Mon (only) and Mia is set to (24bit) 48khz, Purewave - any suggestions?

Also, what are right Mia Buffer settings ( See my sys Specs), .

I am used to Input Mon, but i have heard that is inferioir, so i am wanting to use DirMon, but am confuesed some.

Thanks!!!!!

I'm using PureWave as well—ACID Pro is playing through virtual outputs 1 and 2; Sound Forge on outputs 3 and 4 and CD Architect on outputs 5 and 6.

The Mia's console, of course, reflects the settings I've chosen. I'm not using the S/PDIF output right now, so I keep that portion muted.

The right buffer settings are all dependent on your system setup. You look like you have a peppy system, so start at 512 samples and work your way up from there. (But don't go too high either.)

You're using the latest drivers for the Mia, correct? Console3 should have been included. The manuals aren't too helpful that I can remember as it details the previous version of the console.

The only reason you'd use ACID Pro's input monitoring feature is if you want to hear effects on a track in real time (though the track itself will be recorded dry) or just want to hear what's going on, but it's preferred to let your audio interface handle the monitoring as that's one less thing for ACID to do itself.

mD,

thanks!

-Why the diff outs on Acid,CDArc, SF? Does this help ?

on the buffer, when you say work your way up, would 'up' be larger values (ex:1200+)? this refers to the Mia buffers?

-what are good Acid buffer settings (asio, vst-vsti, etc..)?

can you elaborate on this:

"The only reason you'd use ACID Pro's input monitoring feature is if you want to hear effects on a track in real time (though the track itself will be recorded dry) or just want to hear what's going on, but it's preferred to let your audio interface handle the monitoring as that's one less thing for ACID to do itself. "

Does Acid's Input Monitoring mean Direct Monitor? To use just the Mia , what would be the settings in Acid to do that?

Sorry for the stupid questions, i'm more the artist , than a PC wizard.

Cheers-Thanks again for the help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GES, as long as YOU don't delete your project files and loops, ACID won't do it while uninstalling/reinstalling.

GES:

There are no stupid questions, only people stupid enough not to ask questions. ;)

In order:

-Using the different "virtual outs" allows you to use several apps at once using ASIO. (ASIO is usually very restrictive in allowing you to use only one applicaton that uses the same audio interface at a time. Echo provided a way around that.)

-Buffer size is a separate issue. You have to find a happy medium based upon your system; one that's not too low yet not too high either. (In fact, people who set it too high can exhibit problems too.)

A good rule of thumb is to start at 512 samples. 128 might even work for you. Just remember the more you have going on at once will determine how low you can go. It's not too important a setting if you don't work with MIDI (especially recording MIDI) too much.

-ACID provides a means of monitoring input via the software (ACID). It's actually not on by default and I believe it's on a track-by-track basis. (You'd right-click the "arm for record" button, then hover over "record inputs". You should see an "input monitor" option there.)

The Mia is already set to monitor via its own mixer (what's known as the "Console"; it's under the "Echo Digital Audio" program group provided you installed the Mia's drivers properly). You don't have to do anything per se in ACID as it's already using the Mia to begin with.
