Bug 1 – After resampling using the ‘Set the sample rate only (do not resample)’ method, the time display at the bottom right corner of the sound window does not update and show the new duration when in a time display mode. Also, the time across the top of the waveform does not update, but the duration shown in the bottom right of the actual Sound Forge window next to sample rate, bit depth and channels does update! This is very annoying. The only way I seem to be able to make it update is to right-click on the time display and reselect the time display format. Bug 2 – When working with AVI files the small previews of the video which should be present above the waveform are not visible all of the time when zooming in and out of the waveform and navigating using the slider at the bottom of the waveform. At many zoom levels only half of an image appears on the left of the bar where the images should be. Sometimes the images will appears and flicker as the slider is being dragged and then when the dragging is stopped the images disappear. On certain zoom levels all the images are present but then disappear when either zooming in or out. This is not a problem with the video file as the same video is fine in SF8. I’m not sure if this is somehow related to ‘Bug 1’ above. Annoyance 1 – As has been pointed out by others on this forum I am finding the feature whereby during playback if the cursor is positioned somewhere in the file that playback jumps to this point to be very annoying. In this thread http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=3&MessageID=529670 it seems that it will be addressed in the next release. Any idea when this release will be? Annoyance 2 – I edit and transcribe a lot of stereo files in SF where I need to be able to listen to only a single channel. The way that SF 8 allows the user to click the cursor within a certain region of the waveform to cause playback from a single channel is fantastic for this. However, the new method of selecting playback in only a single channel in SF9 is very frustrating. I am aware of how to do this, by clicking at the very left hand edge of the audio window, but when I want to reposition the cursor it reverts to stereo playback. This becomes very annoying. Is it possible to add an option where the playback channel configuration is retained when the cursor is repositioned? I’m sure that this addition would be useful to many other people. |

Bug 1 - I see this. I will see that this is resolved in the next update. Bug 2 - I see this, as well. It seems to be an issue with certain zoom ratios. I will see that this is resolved in the next update. Annoyance 1 - As I've mentioned on other threads, this will be addressed in the next update. Annoyance 2 - You will likely find the channel lock button useful. The default shortcut is the ` key (left of the '1' key). It is a soft lock, so channel header and key based selection (e.g. Tab, Shift+Tab) will still work, but dropping the cursor and/or making new selections in the data area will keep the current channel selection. As a matter of policy, I cannot provide specific dates for releases or updates until they are available. FWIW, we're actively working on it. J. J Thanks for the speedy reply. Glad you're able to replicate my bugs. I look forward to the next update. Also, thanks for pointing out the channel lock function. That will make my life a whole lot easier :) But the short cut key seems to be different to the one you said. The mouse-over on the lock icon says ' not `. It works for me with ' (the key between ; and # on a UK keyboard) but not for ` (left of 1). - Just thought I'd mention it in case others have problems with it. Phil |

Hopefully, in addressing the jumping annoyance, you will also fix this situation: I SF7, I'm accustomed to zooming in on a selection I've set to loop, then pressing the , key to set the curser to the end of the selection. With SF7, I could then start playback and grab the curser to move the end of the selection to the desired edit point. Now, in SF9, if I start playback, the file jumps to the beginning of the selection. This is driving me crazy!!!! I'm a professional sound designer -- I use SF every day to edit files for coin-op video games. Please help me gain back some of the productivity I've come to rely on so much in SF7. |
