1. In opening and building waveforms for a number of files, SF-9 slows down significantly; current example:
- Files: 44.1k / 16 bit mono WAV
- Number of files: 14
- Avg. file size: 220MB
- SF-9a: Approx. elapsed time: 8 minutes
- SF-8: Approx. elapsed time: 2 minutes
This is not serious, just annoying. I often open a number of files at once to build the waveforms whereas not to interrupt work-flow later on.
2. "Ctrl.+ down arrow": SF-9 does not return to "normal" zoomed out view like earlier versions of SF, not to mention Vegas & Acid....
Bug? Customize Keyboard setting?..I've tried many different custom Keyboard settings, but can't get it to return to the normal view as described above.

Addendum: While I'm on a roll, when using the "Simple Synthisis" the Preview/Stop botton does return to Preview state, In addition it also does not update when re-adjusting levels whilst previewing, one must now stop & restart unlike previous versions of SF. And why even bother having the "Loop preview" mode, since it just loops the entire file or anything selected thereof.
AND, double-clicking the volume fader no longer returns to the default level.

re. no.1:

This is a bug which sony have done nothing about - it was also a problem in V8 for some users.

Please see this thread, which I started in October 2005!!!:

It describes the behaviour you are seeing, and also offers a "fix" from Sony (which slows down other things in SF, but in less noticable ways).

[as a quick summary - it's because SF is trying to mulitask and build peaks for two files at a time - which actually slows everything to a crawl because the harddrive can't keep up]

...and my follow up more recently.

It would be nice if this was fixed, but I'm not hopeful.

1) I'm assuming that this isn't just one version building .sfks and the other version opening existing .sfks. Even so, it is likely not the same as ibliss's issue (If it was, you'd see the same thing in 8.0). I will check it out.

2) This has been brought up elsewhere and will be addressed in the next update.

3) I'll fix the button text and fader. Looped preview still applies to synths because you can loop the synth output or just play it back once (we're still draw the overlay on the data, but it doesn't really do anything in this case).

Reactive previewing seems to work for me, looping or not. Can you elaborate on this one?

Hi J. Thanks for your response. And thanks to ibliss.

ibliss was correct. By changing the DataWnd value, SF-9 now builds multiple files much faster. I changed the default value of "2" to "0" . I sort of recall changing this in SF-8 way-back-when.

I will try to better explain the Simple Synth issue later.
