Hi, I just updated from SF8 to SF9. When I start playback and reposition the curser during playback, playback will start again form the new position. I just want the file to play on , while I make a selection. Is there any preference option that allows me to set the playback behaviour back to what it was in SF8? This function drives me mad!!! Thanks for your help Michael |

It's been discussed in this forum quite a bit already. This change was made to make Sound Forge behave more like the way that Vegas and ACID behave. It seems that several folks don't like it. SONY may consider adding an option switch in some later release to change this behavior, but for now it's the way version 9 works. |

I will have to reinstall version 8. The function is essential for my way to edit large amount of voiceover data. I hope they will resolve this soon. Thank you for now. |

I Mike... I also came back to Sound Forge 8. I think this new cursor behavior of Sound Forge 9 is extremely awful. It falls down my productivity. I think Sony MUST create an option to disable this behavior. Lawrence |

Yes I agree, many of the GUI changes in SF-9 are counter productive. What were they thinking? or smoking, drinking or medication? |

I absolutely agree - as I said in another post, let Vegas do what it does best and let SF do its own thing. Otherwise, what's the point of having different software. This cursor behavior is absurd! |

Bingo! I'm back in SF8, too. Not possible to work in SF9 for me so far. But let's hope the 9.0b will respect the user community's needs again and brings us many of the beloved features/functions back. Let's hope... |

Make the cursor in Sound Forge works like it does in Vegas is an obtuse idea. I´m also a Vegas user and one of the most usefull feature of this sowftware is the "Open in Sound Forge" function. The difference of Sound Forge 8 cursor behavior used to be "cherry" over the cake. I hope SONY will consider the Sound Forge users demands. Lawrence |

Bring back the 'proper' cursor!!! It is impossible to work with it like this. PS - Does Sony Soundforge have a Beta user program or do they have some other way of finding out exactly what their PAYING customers actually want? Sony: Take a leaf out of Access' book (http://www.access-music.de/) They monitor the web forums and release FREE s/w updates all the time, sometimes in direct response to single posts or support calls!!! Not only FREE s/w maintenace releases/bug fixes but FREE feature improvements as well. Oh and they NEVER remove functionality!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Does Sony Soundforge have a Beta user program or do they have some other way of finding out exactly what their PAYING customers actually want? To my knowledge most or all of the former real world beta tester-advisers were let-go when Sony took over from Sonic Foundry. Some were banished from these forums for their criticisms. Red for instance can be found now at the crossfade forum Message last edited on6/18/2007 7:44:51 AM byrraud. |

You knowledge is wrong. Red's removal was his own fault, and has nothing to do with Sony taking over. Peter Message last edited on6/18/2007 2:04:17 PM bypwppch. |

They do have a Beta program. Maybe none of the beta testers have your own (or the OP's) exact requirements or workflow. They monitor the forums, and to the formal avenue - fault reports - and respond to them with free updates. Maybe in response to your requirements they will reinstate the previous cursor behaviour with a selectable option..... geoff Message last edited on6/18/2007 4:37:31 PM byGeoff_Wood. |

I had used Sound Forge 9 extensively for quite a while before the change in cursor behavior had been mentioned in these forums. I hadn't even noticed it until then. My first reaction was to alt-tab back over to Sound Forge and try it to see what folks were talking about. Well, what do you know ... it was acting like Vegas now. And not only that ... i LIKE it better like that! It was just such a subtle change and an improvement for me that i wasn't even aware that it was different. |

Chienworks, that's the whole point. The changes are rather subtle, and for those who never used such a function, even not noticable. That's for sure why they thought at Sony, "bah, doesn't matter, who would use that, let's remove it and no one cares". Now, for those who integrated such a little feature in their workflow and benefit from it, it's just like running against a wall or removing air for breathing. It is just ignorant. One should always respect those, who got used to a behaviour or a feature and just leave it, at least as an option. Always. If they think at Sony that time is coming for a new product, they should bring out a new product with a different name and completly different features/functions/workflow. Then, every user can decide if to stay with SF or go to the new product. For me, I always purchased an SF update as soon as it came out, without asking, because I trusted in this product. My bad. It's too late to go back now. So, if you don't feel missing something with the new cursor behaviour (or other new 'unfeatures'), congrats for you! I for myself cannot work with this like I could before and that's making me very unhappy. |

Ummm...people keep mentioning workflow. It's not like I'm performing complex editing or using complex keyboard commands. All I want to do is select a loop point while the track is playing. That's very basic functionality for an industry leading audio editor! |

Yep, and what you find to be an immense problem, I don't. Presumably they thought it was an 'improvement' - and for some of us it is. For you and mikemusic it seems it doesn't fit the way you work. OK, now you've told them, and presumably they will implement something that will satisfy both camps. geoff |

The problem is that in Sound Forge 8, playing back in loop mode, this "new" behaviour already existed. So, why to REMOVE a functionality?!?!? SONY just could leave an option for many users like me that deal with large amount of voiceover data. For us it is not a "subtle change", unless you consider MORE MANY HOURS OF WORK just a "detail". I notice this "improvement" as soon as I run Sound Forge 9 for the FIRST time. I spent about 30 minutes looking at Preferences and data window looking forward to restore the cursor behavior of Sound Forge 8. A SONY support member told me that if you click in the small gray area above the time ruler you will be able to position the edit cursor in different places. But THIS IS NOT a solution because sometimes it is necessary to make selections with the edit cursor while the file is playing back. Besides that, the data window is much larger and easy to visualize WHERE you are puting the edit cursor. I hope SONY implement an option in the next update. Until then I'm using Sound Forge 8. Has anyone also noticed that placing a marker with the M key, either in playback or recording, does not consistenly drop a marker? I get the marker about 1 out of every 4 times. This is also causing problems for me, especially with the wacky cursor operation. (I used to just click at a point I wanted to come back to after hearing the current section.) |

KPoling, maybe you should open a new thread for that. Concerning the cursor seek behaviour, we all should calm down a bit, maybe, as the already told us that there will be an option for this in the next update. So, let's wait and hope. |
