Subject:SF 9 Izotope Plug-in question

Does the Izotope mastering plug-in that comes with SF 9 include the Multiband Harmonic Exciter function of the Ozone 3 bundle?

Upgrade from 7 to 9 looks like a no brainer for me regardless.

The Mastering Bundle includes: EQ, Limiter, Reverb, and Multiband Compressor.

I've installed the Izotope tool, but haven't yet found it within SF9 - which menu?

Check FX-Favorites: "mastering effects bundle"

No - under FX - Favourites I have
New Blue
River
Sony
VASST Bundle

- but no mention of iZotope - nor in Help files.

Is there an installation procedure apart from running the izotope-mastering-effects.exe file?

I found it (them, actually, not "bundled" as one thing) in the regular plugin effects chain dialog.

Don't remmeber if they were under Third-Party or not, but adding any of them to the chain results in being prompted to register/activate*.

*Not painless for me. They registered ok, but couldn't get the activation code back from the server. Had to do the off-line activation. That worked fine.

Question: will the Izotope plugs work with SF8? These plugs are probably worth the $99 upgrade to me. Apart from the usual 6-9 months I typically wait for bug fixes before installing a new release from Sony, I'm not sure I would even use SF9 because the cursor seek change would take a huge amount of time for me to adapt to.

The iZotope bundle will not show up in Sound Forge 8.0.

They will show up in Sound Forge 9.0 and in future updates and releases of pro SCS products.

If you installed the Mastering Bundle after running Forge 9.0 for the first time, they will be available in the plug-in Explorer, but you may have to go to FX Favorites->Recreate by Plug-In Name (or Organize manually if you wish) if you want them to show up there.

Are the Izotope plugs supposed to be available in other non-Sony apps ( ie Sonar, Cubase )????

Only if the DAW you are using recognizes DX plugs and you direct it to search the Sony folder for available DX plugs. Note, not all DAWS support this cross-platform ability.

Of course, this info is unofficial, so officially I would say NO.

Just use Sound Forge and Acid for all your audio needs. (smirk)

Thanks ForumAdmin - that did it - the plug-ins are now where they should be.

(having a few hassles registering, but that's Izotope's system .....)

I'm not having any luck accessing the iZotope stuff from either Sonar 6 or Reaper. If they're registered as DX plugs, they're definitely only showing up in forge. Is this expected functionality?? If not, should I direct these questions over at iZotope or here?

Thanks,
Chuck

Got a question: As I understand things, Izotope requires a dongle for it's plug-ins; I may be wrong. I see nothing listed in the system requirements sowing a need for a dongle but that's not to say one isn't needed. So it boils down to: dongle needed or not?

"They will show up in Sound Forge 9.0 and in future updates and releases of pro SCS products."

I could be wrong but this statement seems to imply that this version of the izotope mastering plugs are linked to the SCS apps only and won't be available in other programs. This makes sense to me (from a financial perspective) but is disappointing nevertheless.

No dongle required for these plugs.

Where did you install the iZotope Mastering Effects Bundle from?

I don't see it in "my software" and it does not appear on the FX Favorites drop down menu item on my new SF 9.0 install...

Disappointing : (

Thanks for the help

If you ran Sound Forge before installing the Izotope bundle, they will not automatically show up in FX Favorites.

To get them to show up there, simply select FX Favorites->Recreate by Plug-in Name or Organize.

They should also show up in View->Plug-In Manager.

I spoke to Izotope support and they said the plugins will NOT work in other other DAWs and are only available from within Soundforge due to licencing issues. However, if you were quick and downloaded the original install file they DO work in any DAW (Live, Cubase, Sonar, etc). This was a mistake apparently and Izotope have now replaced the download file with a version that only works in Soundforge. If you keep your eyes open you WILL find the original iZotope install file knocking around the web!

I just wanted to say, that the iZotope plugs are truly gorgeous to USE and their output is amazing. The Compression is awesome as are the others.

Very simple and gorgeously graphical to use!

Good choice Madison! Good choice!

I can use my plug-ins in Acid without a problem. Have not tried any other programs. I noticed they were missing when re-installing on my new machine so I went back and used the original file. When originally purchasing the software they made no limitations on the use of the bundled mastering plug-ins. Adobe Audition has a locked in version of the multi-band compressor in their program. Since a very similar version was included in the SF9 upgrade I decided it was worth the upgrade. Since plug-ins like wavehammer are usually cross compatible I didn't see this to be any problem. Users who downloaded the software during this time period should be allowed to continue using this plug-in as they have in the past. However, I have since abandoned the plug-in for the far superior Izotope Ozone.
