ACID 6d locks up on me over and over when I am previewing drum loops. Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks,

Rick

Previewing:

- from explorer or Media Manager?
- MIDI or Audio or both?

I've had lock-ups when previewing...can't say it's specific to drum loops, but that'd be neat if it was.

EDIT: To clarfiy, this is in the preview pane. I never use Media Manager.

From the explorer pane in ACID and just audio, not MIDI.

BTW: The problem is random. Most of the time it's fine, but three times over the course of an hour it just froze up on me.

Thanks!

Any thoughts here? It's getting mighty tiring having ACID crash over and over performing a basic function such as previewing loops. These are SONY loops.

My copy of Acid 6d has been locking up repeatedly on previewing Sony files. However, it is always on a single shot file. And it is defonitely related to Media Manager.

I'm not having any problems previewing files in Media Manager, One-shots or otherwise. I've been trying to find a common denominator amongst you but cannot seem to do so. (Please fill out your profiles.)

IS the file that locks up always locking you up?

Is the file a loop from our colllections, one that you made, or from a third party loop library?

The more details, the better. i.e...

- What were you doing before you locked up?
- Are you playing back while you are previewing? Does it matter?

It seems to lock up whether I'm playing or not. If I am playing, the song continues to play but the program stops responding. If I'm not playing I notice that the cursor starts to hang and move erratically and I can't choose another file and eventually have to Cntrl>Alt>Delete to get out. Again, the program is not responding. All of the loops I have tried are Sony loops. Some are from the Sound Effects collection taht comes with Acid and some are from the disc Loop Euphoria.

I have filled out my profile I believe. How do I get it to show up in my messages?

Just a thought - a lot of my Acid problems lately, including some lockups, have turned out to be related to the (crappy) ASIO drivers for my Audigy card. When I switch to the Wave driver or Sound Mapper, these problems disappear. Of course, the latency then goes through the roof, but it's a partial solution. Next step for me - I'm going to try the ASIO4All universal driver, see if it fixes things better.

@synthpup: You don't. You click on the username to bring up a particular user's profile.

Could the problem be video-related? You mentioned that even when it's not playing it locks up with erratic pointer behavior.

My sound card is an M Audio Delta 44. Their ASIO drivers have always seemed to work fine, both with Cubase and the Sony products I have that could use them.

This is still happening.

I was previewing one of Mick Fleetwood's loops in the explorer as my song was playing and it freezes.

<<(Please fill out your profiles.)>>

Mine is filled out.

<<some lockups, have turned out to be related to the (crappy) ASIO drivers for my Audigy card. >>

I was told not to update the ASIO driver for my Pro Tools 6.4, as it would screw up the thing... PT is on V7 now. And I'm not planning on upgrading any time soon.

Sony? This KEEPS happening. My profile is filled out. I'm using SONY loops and ACID 6d (build363). They are Mick Fleetwood loops. I am previewing loops while playing back an acid file... locks up and what I've done is hosed.

Thanks,

Hi spinweb, if it's any consolation, know that you are not alone:

The lack of responses here probably has more to do with people's aversion to these prehistoric message boards than an actual lack of problems.

Yeah, but does Sony ever go to that board? We don't want to be just talkin to ourselves!

No, Sony is bizarrely adamant about keeping questions about Acid Pro off the site that shares its name, even though the forum on that site requires an Acid or SoundForge serial number to participate. Like the lack of reply notification here, it's hard to say why Sony does what it does, but either way, the point of my post above isn't to suggest an alternate route for addressing your issue, but simply to demonstrate that lots of other people are having similar problems with Acid Pro 6d.

spin, you don't mention what kind of video card you have in your profile.

I have done a bit of testing on this topic and here is what I've discovered.
1) The inability to play a single shot for me is actually happening from the Explorer Pane. I have not been using Media Manager as I previously stated. In fact, I have now disabled Media Manager as it was causing an error message whenever I first opened Acid 6d.
2) I don't think it is my ASIO drivers. I changed my drivers to the generic
windows drivers and the problem continued.
3) If I wait long enough (about 40secs) then the machine will usually return to normal and I won't have to quit the application.
4) Sony support asked me how many tracks I had opened. I didn't have any opened because I was previewing single shot samples to use in a drum loop I was creatinng from scratch.
5) If i click twice and wait, a track will open. If a draw in an instance of the single shot, it will play in the track. Amazingly enough, the problem with previewing the single shot then goes away! I can then preview that sample again and again from the Explorer Pane without it stallining or hiccuping the computer. Other single shot samples will still exhibit the problem however, unless I make them a track and insert an instance of the sample as well . (I do not want to have to make a track for every sample I want to preview so that would be an unacceptable solution.)
6) I'm beginning to believe it is a video card related matter. I recently brought my machine "back from the dead" because my hard disks kept crashing. It was eventually identified as a power supply problem. I have replaced the power supply with a new more powerful one and have int the process, replaced both hard drives and the cd rom (to a dvd player burner). Both disks were formatted and a fresh installation of Windows XP was put on the system drive. All of my drivers had to be replaced, with what I believe were the latest drivers downloaded from the manufacturer's websites. I have been noticing inconsistencies with other programs that I have re installed however. Cubase has trouble drawing waveforms anytime I try to go into record mode after I hve first awakened the program. Once I record one "bad" or corrupted file however it seems to act fine. I have a Matrox Millenium G550 video card. I wonder if the latest drivers have some kind of conflict with some of my programs. I wonder if my BIOS is set up "wrong" for my system and the system software is giving the video card "priority". I have been investigating this in another posting on this website. I wonder if there is still some kind of setting I am unaware of that needs to be "tripped" since I restored my machine to the land of the living.
