I have installed Kompakt but have no idea what to do with it. lol.

how do I control it? Can I play a melody on my Yamaha keyboard and feed it through Kompakt to get an authentic horn sound, for example?

Help!

Thanks

Kompakt is a sampler. You can either use the instruments that come with it OR throw your own samples at it and create your own instruments.

There's a PDF (Adobe Reader) document that installs in the "Native Instruments Kompakt Sony ACID Pro" program group folder. Everything you ever wanted to know about the program is in there.

Admittedly, I looked at this quickly, but it is far from intuitive how to use this.

Is there a tutorial anywhere? I bought the ACID Pro 6 training video.... Does that walk you through it at all?

Not sure about the AP 6 training video as I haven't seen it. I don't know offhand if there are any tutorials out there.

In a nutshell:

There are 2 sections to Kompakt: The "multi" section (in the top left) and the "instrument" section (in the top right). The multi section can contain several different instruments. When you click on any one particular instrument in the list, it becomes active in the "instrument" panel on the right. You can then edit the parameters of this instrument (like LFO, chorus, reverb, etc.)

By using Kompakt's browser, you can get started by clicking and dragging a sample to Kompakt's keyboard. (Drag the sample to the bottom of a key to assign it to only one key.) When you release the mouse button, an instrument is automatically created. (The keyboard's key will turn green, and "new instrument" will be created in the multi panel. You can, of course, rename this instrument in the instrument panel. It will be reflected in the multi panel.)

From there, you're free to do whatever you want to this sample (if you want). As basic as Kompakt is, you can still create some far-out, creative stuff.
