Once I have laid down a fairly quantized rhythm section, I often play a melody with lots of synchopation and "feel". ( I'm talking midi here.) My keyboard skills being somewhat less than guitar, I often don't get every note perfect, but the timing is just as I want, so I go through and put all the wrong notes where I really meant to play them ... I do this by moving them vertically up or down, but haven't found a foolproof way of ensuring they stay in exactly the same time position. I do it by sight, then check by ear to see if they need adjusting. What I need is something like the Vegas numerical 8 or 2 which moves events vertically up or down. I'd appreciate any tips on how to achieve this in AP6. Thanks, Peter Message last edited on5/8/2007 8:27:39 PM byPeterWright. |

There is no keyboard shortcut like in Vegas. What you have to do is zoom in enough on the timeline until you see the start of the note line up with a vertical line on the MIDI grid and then move it with the mouse knowing that it will continue to snap to the line. ~jr |

Thanks Johnny. The notes I am trying to move are generally not snapped to any grid line - after setting up a tightly quantized rhythm section, I often like to play a melody with some "human fallibility" (which I like to call "feel" !). It's because I want to maintain this feel when moving pitch up or down that I want to keep the exact time position. Since I originally posted, I have developed a satisfactory work around: 1. Hit "f" to enable velocity stems 2. Draw in a new note the same length as the original, then use the vertical velocity stem to exactly align the new with the old 3. Delete the old ... but I'd still love Acid to add a keystroke like Vegas to vertically move notes! |
