When I mix two sound effects together to create a new sfx, I cannot find the checkbox 'Apply destination volume to overlapping area' (which I want unchecked mostly). At the moment it only mixes the selected area, which is no good for sound design. |

Yep ! Use the appropriate software. Try Vegas or Acid. geoff |

I was hoping for a more professional response. We have ProTools HD3, Final Cut Pro HD etc.. but much of our sound design is still done in SF because it is the best software in it's field by far. It would be great if Sony could respond to our query? |

Professional response ? My response is most 'professional' and appropriate if what you are attempting to do is as I understand. I assume you are assembling various sound bits and pieces which involves overlapping and moving them around and overlapping etc wrt each other in order to get the final result ? If so then you are making life very difficult by attempting to do this in SF. As I suggested, try Vegas or Acid, or another DAW app that is suited to multi-track NLE work. I wasn't being flippant. If your 'sound design' is something different, then I don't know. geoff |

In Sound Forge 9, if you have two waveforms open you can select what you want from Waveform A and choose Copy; then go to Waveform B place cursor where you want to Mix in copied audio and choose Edit / Paste Special / Mix (or CTRL + M)... this will open the Mix/Replace Dialog. What's new in SF 9 is that you can reposition the event that you are pasting and customize crossfades visually. You can also adjust Source and Destination volumes. So in a way this is operating in a somewhat 'non-linear' fashion. After you are happy with your changes, you can apply by pressing OK. Not sure if that is what you are attempting, but thought I would throw it out there. |

I'm reading thru all of these older postings - what you are suggesting has so many more steps then the original checkbox. I also use Vegas, but I agree with the original posting. This used to be a one step operation. No selecting from complicated menus, and no having to create envelopes. When working with just a couple of items, like a voice over, the early versions were FAR superior. I'd at least like to see the original commands and dialogue boxes left as an option that can be turned on. |
