NI Kontakt 2 is an awesome sampler. ACID Pro 6 comes with KOMPAKT Sony ACID Pro Edition which is a lite version of Kontakt. You might want compare the price of Kontakt ($399) to the upgrade for ACID Pro 6 from Music Studio ($299) and get all the advantages of ACID Pro along with Kompakt. In other words, I would compare the features of Kontakt to Kompakt and see which one fits your needs best. If you don't need the full blown Kontakt, you might be better off upgrading to ACID Pro 6 with Kompakt.

Kontakt is a great sampler, but unless you are a sound designer with very advanced skills and complex needs, most of KONTAKT will be overkill. The Acid version of Kompakt is more than adequate, but if you can, try to find a copy of NI Nompakt (full version). I just got a copy from a music store in Florida for around $100 on ebay. It is a discontinued product but well worth the search. With Acid's version, you cant put any other .nki instruments in the rack other than the ones that ship with the product. The full version can load any compatible .nki instrument through the browser from other sample libraries. This makes the full version limitless in the sounds it can produce, as opposed to the ACID version which will be lintited to the sound in its library.
That's not to say that the Acid version is bad - it is a great bomus and a great starter. But if you have an eye to the future and have a hundred bucks, try to locate a copy of NI Kompakt before they cant be found.

One thing I WAS able to do was convert the dozens of exs24 samples I had from previously using Logic Audio, and now have them all available in Kompakt in Acid.

I believe there are some other types of samples that can be similarly converted.

If one has the resources (for example, access to a collection of samples), you can create your own instruments and multis in the ACID Pro version of Kompakt. You just have to know how to go about it.
