Subject:Loops & Samples: for what?

I have a question about the Sony Sound Series Loops and Samples that Media Manager wants us to use as the "Reference Library." Please forgive me because I'm new with AP6, but I can't figure this out: What purpose does it serve for a person to have 'thousands" of references to loops that they don't have available on their computer? What am I missing? How does it help anybody to know that they have "002 Funk Riff (G) har.wav" referenced on their system if it is not available except for purchase? And there's 'thousands' of them listed, like little ads, over and over. I don't get it. OK, fine, if I want to purchase them, great. But how does having them all in Media Manager help anything? As a Reference Library, it's either the Sony sound series etc . . . or "none." I don't understand the purpose of all those unusable samples being there. M9rv1n |

I don't use the Media Manager now, but I did try it for a while. One obvious reason for the Sony reference library is to encourage you to buy more loop disks! I can't really criticise Sony for this. A more helpful reason is that when you do buy a Sony disk, you don't have to tag all the loops for searching - it's already done for you. I have quite a few Sony libraries, and this is a potentially useful feature. The reason I don't use the manager is simply that it takes too long to load up when I open Acid. |

Thanks for your reply. That's my point, though: What good are those unusable samples, when they don't even help you with tagging unless you buy them? And, why is the default setting of Acid Pro set to force you to look at useless advertisements (adverts if you prefer) when you choose the "default" media library? |
