Subject:Computer won't upgrade from Directx9.0b to 9.0c

After doing some searching online it seems some other people are having a similar issue. Even though the 9.0c upgrade installer tells me it installed, my computer remains at 9.0b. It seems the solution is to extract the full b installer into a folder and then extract the full c installer into a folder. The next step is to replace all the cab files in the b folder with the cab files from the c folder. Then when you run the b install it works around the issue and you end up with 9.0c. My problem is I cannot locate a download for the 9.0b installer. I have the c installer. I have looked at earlier program discs etc, to no avail. Would anyone have a suggestion where a 9.0b installer might be found? Presently I cannot install Sound Forge 9 because it sees that the b has not advanced to c and halts. Any help would be very much appreciated, Thank you.

You don't say what operating system you're using. If you're using XP with SP2, you should already have 9.0c (it's part of the service pack). If you ARE using XP SP2 and it's reporting 9.0b, reinstall the service pack instead of using the DirectX installer. If you reinstall, use the network distribution version instead of the web installer:

Hope this helps.

Yes I am using XP and service pack 2 is installed. I have several computers here and they all have c. This one for some reason did not end up with c even with the service pack installed. I will try reinstalling SP2. Thank you for the help.

Thank you for that very valuable tip. I reinstalled Windows XP SP2 (just the service pack) and that took care of the problem. Once again more good information learned from these forums. Thank you again Kryten. I really appreciate it.

I'M HAVING WHAT I PERCEIVE TO BE A SIMILAR PROBLEM TO WHAT YOU DESCRIBED, ALTHOUGH I HAVEN'T THE SLIGHTEST IDEA HOW TO IDENTIFY WHAT VERSION OF DIRECTX IS ACTUALLY INSTALLED ON MY SYSTEM, I GET THE IMPRESSION THAT DIRECTX 9.0C IS NOT INSTALLING. IT APPEARS TO INSTALL WHEN I RUN THE SET UP FROM THE SF9 DISC, BUT UPON CLICKING FINISH, ERROR MESSAGE SHOWS "REQUIREMENTS NOT MET", PREVENTING SF9 FROM INSTALLING. I TRIED SILENT INSTALL AND VARIOUS DOWNLOADED UPDATES (DIRECTX 9.0C FROM MICROSOFT WEBSITE, SOUND FORGE9.0A...). I CAN'T SEEM TO GET PAST THIS POINT. I SEE THAT YOU SOLVED YOUR PROBLEM BY REINSTALLING SP2. HOW EXACTLY DOES ONE REINSTALL SP2? DOES THAT MEAN REINSTALLING THE ENTIRE OPERATING SYSTEM (XP PRO SP2) OR IS SP2 A SEPERATE COMPONENT?
